With the reductions being announced or coming, surely fixing means that we may in fact pay more?

No, not if you go onto a deal such as SP's Feb 2016. It's fixed till then, but you can move to another tariff or another company at any time without penalty.
  • I have just looked at SP Feb 2016 and it says there is a £25 early exit charge

Don't know where you got that, just been on SP and it says no exit fees, and you can switch penalty free if you just change tariff and not move. Changed to jan 16 fix last month for cheaper SC and will be changing to feb 16 tonight as i input my monthly meter read. It only took a few days to be moved over .
  • Strange as just googled Scottish power 2016 February and got a sp link saying that there is this exit fee.

So let's assume that info is wrong , are people saying its cheaper than the March2015 equivalent in which case there is no downside in switching to it right now?

Go onto uSwitch and put your annual usage in. A pound to a penny the Feb 2016 will be the best SP deal. You are almost certainly correct: no downside to switching.

If you access your SP account online, log in and click on "Get a Quote". That will tell you the best SP deal for you.

With regard to extraenergy they do not let you switch internally to cheaper Extraenergy tariffs without paying the exit fees. I was informed about this by MABLE on the extraenergy thread. To unless they have changed their policy, be aware of this.

Many companies, SP included, make it very easy to do an internal switch without penalty.

    Always check though!

I had a quick look and the SP Feb 16 costs are 5-10% higher for me than Mar16 - which may be the best deal but no point rushing....

There is another February 2016 deal, with a slightly different name with exit fees. Not sure if it's an online one but there are (were) 2.

I was on Scottish Power March 2015 fix as well.

Skipped May 2015, because it was more or less the same.

    Have been on:

    September 2015
    December 2015
    January 2016

    Am currently on:

    February 2016

    Just log on and change.
If divorce was so painless, we would all be swapping for a younger model every three months.
  • Hi

I logged on and the only option it gave me is Online Fixed Price Energy Feb2016 - it says this will cost me more than I am currently paying. I am a heavy user (have annex and main house). If I dig in the detail the standing charge of the new tariff is 20.55 (cf 32.6p/day) but what is driving the price is the unit charge 10.65 (cf 10.076p). Appreciate my current tariff is going to switch to standard come April so not sure of the case to switch now as other deals may come through in the next few weeks.... Am I missing something ?
