  • I too have received a similar letter regarding Thermal Coatings, I am in Scotland & had my roof done a couple of years back (I am very happy with the job done, no problems whatsoever).
Instantly this uninvited letter rang alarm bells, firstly it was addressed to Mr & Mrs Jim ******* whereas on any agreements I would be using James so clearly they got this address from some dodgy source ( one of the ones where I use Jim ), secondly, the wording did not seem very professional, using the enquiring term " Have you purchased ...?.) and statements like "scam, advised by our chartered surveyors, if you purchased, there is a cut off time so please HURRY etc".
I personally would not touch this company with a barge pole, the previous poster accurately called it a phishing scam.
  • Received a letter from Stenfield today regarding Thermal Coatings. First thing I did was check out Stenfield on Internet and found the MSE forum. Pretty much confirmed my original thoughts about the letter. I too am quite happy with the work done by Thermal Coatings.
Thanks and won;t pursue the matter any further.
  • I received a letter from Stenfield & Co this morning regarding Thermal Coatings, I am in Scotland and I had my roof done a couple of years ago but not by Thermal Coatings but by Coating Solutions, of which I am very happy with, so immediately thought scam, and there was no mention of having paid by credit card so it seems they have widened their net to cover more potential victims - I am very wary of "We'll get your money back" offers but I wonder how many do check and so have fallen for this? Best place for this letter is the bin!!!
  • I too received a letter this morning (01/10/17) from Stenfield & Co regarding Thermal Coatings, I also live in Scotland & had my roof & walls done three years ago. There was no mention in the letter of paying by credit card & I actually paid by debit card. I think my letter will also be going in the bin.
  • On 14/10/16 my elderly mother received a letter from 'Stenfield & Co Legal International' enquiring 'have you received a Roof/Wall Coating from the above liquidated company in order to ......' It refers to a business Thermal Coatings Limited/Thermashield Roof Coatings Limited. It offers the chance of pursuing a claim on the basis that 'you have probably been a victim of a scam' and cites the 'expert evidence from our chartered surveyors'. It concludes with the usual ' no win/no fee/no upfront charge and the claim that 'there is a cut off time' for a claim. My late father was indeed a 'customer' (victim) of Thermal Coatings Ltd. (now apparently liquidated) in 2011. At the time his mental capacities were beginning to fail him. I have more recently found out about this and that he paid in excess of £4500 for a sub standard moss clear and paint of the cement tiled roof of the house. The moss has re-appeared!! A 10 year guarantee issued with the job is for sure worthless! From other posts it seems as though 'Stenfield & Co.' have acquired old customer lists. I can only conclude that this is also a scam, perhaps to charge for a 'survey' ahead of proposed civil action for compensation! It should be obvious that there is no hope of that in the case of 'Thermal Coatings Ltd.' which it seems was liquidated potless!!

This all reminds me of the experience of the father of an American friend. He saw a newspaper ad. which said "send 10 dollars and find out how to become rich". He did this and received the reply " Fish for suckers like I do".
  • I'm not in Scotland but I got my roof done by Thermal Coatings and got a
Stenfield letter in June and they got me my money back. Can't speak for
everyone else but it worked fine for me?
  • I have also recently received a letter from Stenfield & Co Legal International about a company called The Big Green Company based in Cheshire, this company has also gone into liquidation earlier this year. Again the letter implies mis-selling and that money could be recovered, again it is on a 'no win no fee' basis and the company would take 25% + VAT. Also the letter states that there is a cut off time for making a claim.
  • All,With regards to the Thermal Coatings claim I have just recently received a FULL refund through a claim by Stenfield and Co. I do live in Scotland. It did take some time and after a while I was thinking it was a scam, especially when I received their invoice before actually receiving any refund. Obviously I replied stating that I would pay once I received the refund. The letter stated that I should receive payment within 21 days of the settlement offer, however it was more like 30 days. I did cheekily phone the solicitors and say that I had as yet not received my refund as stated and was told that they would chase it up. I wasn't holding my breath as I was now thinking that it might have been a scam but at least I hadn't lost anything. However approx 5 days after the call the refund was in my account.
I would say that if you have received a letter from Stenfield it could be worthwhile following up. It is a no win no fee claim after all. The reason they ask if you paid by credit card or not, is due to the fact that paying by credit card your are covered against anything going wrong with the product or any misselling etc. You can claim against the card provider if the providing company no longer exist. I used two credit cards to pay for the product, both of which have since expired but I was still able claim a refund.
I would say go for it. You have nothing to lose. Just remember do not pay out anything until you receive your settlement.

Absolutely amazing that anyone reporting they have their money back only has 1 post to their name. Any cynic would think that they have a connection with the dubious law practice
