Fuel surcharges

We are flying to Auckland next week. On looking at our Flight Schedule we have paid £320.00 in fuel surcharges for two of us for the return flights. The tickets were booked and paid for several months ago long before the sharp drop in the price of fuel. Apparently I f we booked the same flight today we would have to pay £350.00 fuel surcharge.
Can anyone explain this to me? I am puzzled!

It's a fuel surcharge in name only, these days actual fuel prices have very little impact on YQ :eek:0

Airlines don't buy fuel on a pay as you go basis, they buy in advance and do deals known as hedging, it's a complex situation.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
