Is there an external dvd rw/cd availible that will work with my Nook HD+.
I have an old Dell opt 745 that has no rw so if it fits that as well :j.
Less than £30 to spend.

  • You can get USB DVD Drives.

Whether they would work, I don't know.

Also, you might need an adapter, to convert the full USB plug on the DVD Drive, to fit the connector on the Nook.

It's a bit of a faff to get usb working with the Nook HD.

The HD+ should be the same.
It involves using the proprietary charge cable with a usb gender changer along with software, just to use an ordinary flash drive.

I managed to get a flash drive working with my Nook HD by following,

Wouldn't it be easier to plug a USB DVD caddy into the PC, then use the Nook to access the drive over the network...?

We don't know why the OP wants this.

OP, tell us what you need to do, there's probably a much more straightforward way :)

It'll probably be easiest to attach a DVD drive to your PC, rip them on that, and then copy the files to your Nook over your wireless network.

    Thanks guys.
Looks like I need a newer desktop really, this one doesn't have wifi or dvdrw. I shall save my pennies for now.;)
  • You don't need a new desktop. If it has a USB port, then you can plug a wifi adapter or DVD-RW drive into them.

If you're short of USB ports, you can buy USB cards which gives you more (powered) USB ports. Don't buy a USB hub thinking it'll run a DVD-RW drive - because it isn't powered, it probably won't.

What is the make and model of your current desktop?

If you use the Internet on your desktop, then it already has a network card, which is connected to your router. The router presumably provides the wireless to the Nook, so everything should work already if properly set up. No need to buy a wireless card.

As above, the PC doesn't need to be wireless. It's just needs to be connected to your router (either via cable or wifi). To copy files from the PC to your Nook, the Nook will also have to be connected to the router -- I mentioned wifi because it would be unusual to connect a tablet using a network cable.

If there is a spare 5.25" bay on the PC, you could install an internal DVD-RW drive (but check whether you need an IDE interface or SATA -- probably IDE for a PC that old).

If there's not a spare drive bay (or if you don't want to open up the PC), you can get an external DVD-RW player that connects via USB. Something like this:
