The certificate errors you are getting are due to having a dead cmos battery, for a pound or less you could cure it without resorting to a new pc. Takes a couple of minutes to fit - google.

Or, you could just correct the date and time manually each time, or tell the machine to sync the time at login.
You could have hit the nail on the head as my time at the bottom right hand of the screen gave up working before Christmas around the time I kept getting cert errors on a lot of sites Maybe replcing the battery may sort the problem .
I reall don't mind being called an old biddy as that's what I am
:):) (circa 1943) How do I tell the machine to sync the time (I really am a non-techy person ) But I can wire a plug up, and change a light bulb
:):)
All these things about 'platforms and HDD I'm afarid go straight over my barnet I just want to do my emails get online to here and a few other cookery bits and of course my history/genealogy sites which are my hobbies
Cheers for all the input though

Dahhhhhling!
How sweet of you to comment without actually bothering to read the original post containing the original question
The lady describes herself as a non-techy old biddy.
No disrespect on my part - only complete confusion about the flag wavers pointing out that she won't be able to pop open hd case and swap out the HDDScrimping the nuts out of life since 2006!:cool:0 -
Why won't Windows 95 understand USB?
What are the chances of a device bought in 2015 to provide a parallel port via USB having a Windows 95 driver?Of course, though, the Windows would need a driver for the device.
Precisely. Which was my point. So what would be needed would be a Windows 95 compatible USB-parallel adapter.
Which I suspect don't exist, because in 1995 machines had parallel ports anyway.0 -

I thought you were saying that windows 95 wouldn't understand usb, in general.
As for a usb-parallel adapter, I would agree that a new device of today would probably not be supported in windows 95.
However, older ones might; it's likely a device released up to say 2000 would include windows 95 support.0 -
Well, I did a quick google for "windows 95 usb parallel", and the bottom of the page had an Amazon ad for a USB-parallel connector.
On following the link, I clicked on the first item:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/parallel-adapter-25-pin-Printer-metres/dp/B00JPCEIBG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422221011&sr=8-1&keywords=parallel+to+usb+connector
Its details say:- Model designation: CSL USB to parallel adapter LPT 25-pin | Printer cable / adapter cable
- Connection: USB A connector to parallel LPT 25 pin | connects a parallel printer directly to the USB port
- USB: compatible with USB 1.1 and 2.0 | Cable length: 1,5m (metres) | simple Plug & Play installation | no external power supply required | no drivers needed
- To use: simply plug into the USB port of the PC/notebook/netbook etc. and the standard LPT connection
- System requirements: Microsoft Windows 95 / Windows 98 / Windows ME / Windows XP / Windows 2000 / Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 8.1 and Linux
There y'go!0 -

if you managed to do it, and it works after a boot, I'm impressed - it is easy but fiddly and half of the default time servers never seem to work so you have to pick a good one

Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
