For completely legit reasons that I do not wish to divulge I would like to get a VPN so that it appears that I am in the UK.
I'm happy to pay a modest fee for the service as IME free software is often malware.
Any recommendations?
TIA.

You could try Zenmate, that's what I use to switch locations, and it's free. If you're using Firefox search for it in the add-on's site, or if you're on Chrome, search for it in the Chrome store. It's a browser plugin.
When it's running, just click the country flag icon, and a pop-up appears with a list of countries to choose from, and it's easy as that.
If you want to pay, there's offers on CyberGhost...

how about 'hola' - http://hola.org/
I use it and it works a treat.
I think this works in the browser so won't, for instance, change an app installed on an iPad however it might be what you are looking for.
Hope this helps.0 -
I want to use it to watch Match of the Day. Potentially to access Netflix at some point.0

I've been using this for a few weeks now - free version only. My 40 meg connection returns consistent speedtests of 30-36 through the vpn (French servers being faster) and the upload speed has increased from 9 to 19.
Overall - has a nice simple UI, browsing is faster, system usage is low and there is a decent selection of countries/servers.
Downside is not being able to torrent without upgrading to premium. Although there is a $20 a year offer on atm which does offer a few premium servers that may support P2P - need to check.0 -
I read somewhere that Cyberghost does not have servers in the UK and if that's correct you would not be able to watch Match of the Day.
Cyberghost does have UK servers.
Sometimes websites use geolocation services which misidentify your host locations and think you are somewhere else. This seems to happen more often with VPN solutions than with big UK ISPs.
I've also found that some UK websites won't load, or only partly function, or come up "access denied", presumably because they are blocking Cyberghost's UK IPs.
Only you can verify that you can access all the websites you need. So if you want to try Cyberghost, perhaps you could try the free version first to confirm it works well for you with the sites you wish to access, before considering signing up for a paid service.0 -

Never failed me in any respect over 2 years usage. Will be renewing again for further 12 months in 2 days time.
