Why you go home and sign up on line.
You have very few cancellation rights if you sign in the shop.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

Well, you should have either checked the signal before buying a contract or checked the returns policy when buying from a store.

What's "14 days"? If you mean the statutory cooling off period under the DSR, it doesn't apply to in-store purchases.

    this would apply to OP

    Coverage guarantee
    No reception? No problem

On the rare occasion the new phone or dongle you're so excited about can't get any reception where you live, there's no need to panic. We'll take care of it. Just return it to us within 14 days* and we'll find you a network that works where you live.

The coverage guarantee is for new contracts only and does not apply to upgrades.

If you have a reception issue at home, just pop into your nearest Carphone Warehouse store with:

Your product, preferably in its original packaging along with any accessories or free gifts that came with it
Proof of your ID and address so we can sign you up to a new contract
If you bought online or over the phone we can sort your issue more quickly if you visit us in store. But if you'd prefer to talk on the phone, call us on 0370 111 6565^.

Click here to check the network coverage in your area
    * Your network may charge you for usage up to the date of cancellation.

^^Calls to this number may be free from a landline. Prices of calls from other providers may vary and from mobiles may cost significantly more. Calls may be recorded and/ or monitored. Visit this page for opening hours.

"any reception where you live" is vague and possibly doesn't cover "at my home" if the latter means indoors only.

    Just playing the devil's advocate...

True very vague. I know sometimes i have to go outside to get a signal, but OP needs to check on the coverage map.

But i am with others, if his mate had no signal then why go and sign up for a contract on the same network and instore too.

I know when i got an orange contract i did all checks first, then went into CPW store, got some advice on phones etc. said thank you and went home with a couple of options and went online ordered online to pick up in store to collect the following day.
  • The Coverage Guarantee says Carphone Warehouse will find them a new provider not that the overall contract can be cancelled. Just as the OP has been informed already by EE.

well it means they will cancel the EE airtime contract and find a new airtime provider, otherwise the OP would end up paying for the EE contract along with the contract of the new provider
