Ah well now here's a thought...estate agents ...who needs 'em ? When selling my house twelve years ago I put a' for sale' sign in the upstairs bedroom window of my house with my phone no. on...I had about 8 viewers and sold it within a month...total cost of me ( diy) estate agent about £2 for the board and paint.! There is a lesson there methinks ?!
  • I had an Estate agent in last week to value my property. i had researched OTM and asked him why they would only list on either RM or Zoopla he replied that "Zoopla gave prospective buyers / sellers far to much information" it giving the ability to negotiate prices, i.e. number 4 sold for £££ so I want... Or number 22 sold last year for££ so I'll offer ££
    :kisses3: Everyday above ground is a bonus!!:D

Most people search Rightmove first but in truth they also search lads of different websites .
Surely Zooplas argument that people only check the two major portals is blown out of the water by Zoopla itself retaining the Primelocation brand in its own right rather than assimilating it into the main website.
    Kind of dispels this myth

As far as I can see, this benefits no one [apart from the people setting it up in the hope of cashing in]. unless i am missing something ...

The new site was created by high street, brick-and-mortar estate agents and thus, obviously, it should benefit these agents.

    Expected benefits are two-fold:
    1. They will be paying less than they do on existing portals, and the extra competition may make existing portals drop their prices.
    2. Online agents will be excluded from this new site, so this is also a tool to attempt to contain a threat (to high street estate agents).

Exactly. If this anti-competitive website 'Onthemarket' wants to set presidents to undermine true competition in the market place and pervert property sales, then they are going the right way about it.

If the estate agents wants to 'compete' with 'the big boys' , perhaps they should ask, why are they the big boys?

Besides, it should do so within the rules, not break them like 'Onthemarket' is doing. You compete on price, you complete on features, and basically you do it better or cheaper! Sounds like that wouldn't be such a hard thing to do, give the amount of moaning about the fees.

What you don't do is create a cartel to undermine the free market. Those that advocate for this draconian control measure, and pretend not to ‘get it’ likely have vested interests such as they are an estate agent! So be careful of pro-cartel opinion on these kinds of threads, why would anyone seek to pervert common sense in this issue.

The reason Right Move and Zoopla are so dominant, is because they are doing something right, it’s an example of capitalism working for the people (almost brings a tear to your eye). See unlike the pro-cartel estate agents clan, they present a fair, balanced and board brush deal across the property landscape. In essence it’s the Auto Trader of the property world. So are we to see the car manufactures try this trick next. Oh dear looks like someone’s hoping to set an evil precedent here. This needs nipping in the bud – FAST. I wonder when we will have a clear position on this dirty move, from the likes of the European Commission and its Directorate General for Competition!

Yes they charge some money for their services, poor estate agents, diddums!
See if estate agents did their jobs properly and were trustworthy, clean. non-tactical, unbiased pillars of honesty and integrity, THEY wouldn’t need Rightmove, Zoppla et al, and thus they wouldn’t have a problem today.

The outcome of this move by the estate agents clan is what defines anti-completive. Someone for god’s sake, stop them! :j

At the end of the day, we don't need estate agents anymore. Neither their antics nor influence is good for society in the modern age. If people just wake up to this fact and start putting their own houses on RM, Zoopla etc. Stop paying silly prices themselves never mind estate agency's having the cheek to complain their getting a raw deal!

The way we win is boycott Onthemove.com, the way you win is put your houses on rightmove and Zoopla for a smaller price and conduct your viewings on weekends or evenings if needs be.

Have your independent evaluation done and your ECP report at the ready. Its time people stopped being zombies and started taking some responsibility for this messed up property market were in.

Problem is, just like those (swearing is blocked Dam) , very very silly people that pay well over the proper valuation for a property and push up prices at the expense of everyone, we have a bigger problem at hand, and that is the system allows it in the first place. We need a system change, where its first come first serve, you offer the valuation price, your locked into a non gazumping arrangement, similar to Scotland. Housing is not a game to be played with peoples lives, yet property has been treated as such for years, your children and generations to come, are about to suffer dreadfully. Greed has no place in the residential sector.

What we are saying here is that they get to create a two tier property system, where Onthemarket.com can go, We, the estate agents, know your first port of call is 98% us, only a few of your will ever have the common sense to cut us out the loop, although we are worried that this could begin to change. We estate agents have agreed amongst ourselves a la Drugs cartel, to take advantage of this current lack of common sense amongst you all.
We are going to gateway all the properties you want to look at, if you want to the latest property updates, you come to us (say that in a ⅿafiа shakedown style voice). We will quickly and rapidly drive change across all the estate agents, so that we are the only game in town. Any estate agent who doesn't join us with be cast out like dogs. We do not fear this, since it is within all estate agents interests to 'JOIN' the cartel. Besides we don't need every single estate agent to cause mayhem in the online world and ruin it for all of you.

We will achieve mayhem by making it extremely difficult for you to get your content somewhere else, because of the restrictions we are going to impose. After we have our foot in the door and get away with this strategy, which we will, because we are above the law and have very well-heeled resources, we then land and 'expand'!!! Once we have enrolled the majority of estate agents and the dust settles, we will then change our T's & C's to further tighten our grip on the market, stifle any and all competition. We seek to render all other avenues that might offer far better prospects for you and everyone else selling property, DEAD! Now shut up and put up Hahahahha

The fees that EA's are charged by the portals are reflected in the cost to you the consumer. I fail to see any benefit in that. Much in the same way I'm not duped by Apple.

I've nothing against Right Move specifically but it does seem to be the way the Internet works, you always seem to end up with one website that has over 50% of the market, eg Right Move, eBay, Google, Amazon, iTunes etc. I'm not sure that's good for consumers, having too big a market share can lead to anti-competitive practices.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

A clear distinction between Rightmove, Zoopla etc and this estate agent clan website has been made in the comments above. Hope people see sense and boycott the terrible market perverting Onthemarke.com website.

I'm not impressed by onthemarket so far.
There was a house I considered going to view when I started house hunting last month, I knew at the time from looking at the rightmove stats that it had been on the market since the start of November.
Now it's popped up on Onthemarket as a 'newly listed' property which is not exactly true.
I'm not that keen on the look of the sight either, of the three of them I much prefer Zoopla because imo it gives more useful info than the others do.
