From BT broadband/phone to Sky.

I have decided to change broadband/line rental/calls from BT over to Sky.
I placed the order online through Quidco for cashback.
During the order process I was never asked for a MAC as Sky said they would sort everything out with my current provider.
I had to wait 7 days for a MAC from BT and even then I had to call them and state that OFFCOM says that they must give this within 5 working days and was given all sorts of excuses about not being sent the MAC. I was given the code over the phone and yesterday I got an email saying sorry your are leaving and here is your code.
On my online Sky account its states that the order is ontrack for 3/02/2015 connection.
The T&C's of Quidco says that the whole transaction must be done online to get the cashback and if I or Sky need to finish the deal over the phone the cashback will be declined.
Do I need to call Sky and give them this MAC or will transfer over ok without it?

    Just an update.
I had a call yesterday from BT asking why I was leaving. I said it was cheaper with Sky and the bloke said but with BT you get free BT sport so I said I got a letter saying unless I commit to a new 18 month contract I will have to pay for this "free BT sport".
He then went on about how I may get slower speed and problems from Sky and they may take longer to fix problems compared to BT and then he states that if the MAC is not used BT can charge £30 termination fee. I explained that I was not asked for this when ordering from Sky he answer was I should stick to BT and that was more or less the end of the call.
As for the cashback it has tracked but as with all cashback deals not certain of getting paid.

It's nonsense from bt , BT open reach fix ALL faults on a first come basis regardless of the operator so BT have no priority over others like sky or talk talk

Sky fibre is rebadged bt infinity so the same product , not sure how different speeds

They can charge you £30 if the service is ceased , not swapped to sky

  • Sky said they would sort it out with your old provider. That seems to answer the question.

When I changed ISP's the problem was not with the new ISP but the old one who continued to charge me, as they later claimed that they had not been notified by my new ISP of the date when they took over the service.

Interesting that you now have to sign a new contract for 18 months if you want to continue getting BT Sports. You obviously did not agree to this and I think I will be ditching BT sports when my contract is up in May.

These BT retention staff will bend the truth to keep your custom. They must be on some sort of commission.

Browntoa I will not be on fibre just staying the same on ADSL.

Swipe I have had 3 BT c/s reps and they all gave me the impression that it's a bad move to leave them as speed, reliability and prices will not be as good as it is with BT.

Stockton I got a letter saying my min term will end 1st week in Feb and to still get BT sport I will need to start a new fixed term contract or I will be put on a loyalty discount rate of £6.75, line rental of £16.99 plus £1.75 for caller display, £2.12 for evening/weekend calls and broadband from £13.80 a month. I am sure I was told min term was 18 month and 12 for phone.

Local loop faults will be fixed by BT OR just as they are now, regardless of provider. So 'reliabliity' is a red herring.OR are not allowed to prioritise BTR in any way, so 'speed of repair' is also unaffected. Speed will almost certainly improve on an LLU service, and as for pricing, BT are one of the most expensive providers around. If you want a cheaper deal but want to stay on the BT network, look at Plusnet.
The retention guys are paid to keep your business (the clue is in the dept name...) so of course they'll stretch the boundaries of truth in order to keep your business. That's what they do all day, every day.
Migrations done without a MAC will incur a £30 cease charge-this is levied by OR to BTR, and passed on.
Once you cease to be a BT subscriber you will no longer get 'free' BT SPort (it's not free, it's paid for in your overall subscription): I'm unclear why you thought this service would continue?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

macman about the £30 cease charge, in my conversations with BT I was told that if I change providers there will be no fee to pay but if I stop broadband and don't go to a new provider then I will have to pay the fee. Who will pay this charge, me or Sky?
I have read on MSE about lots of customers getting charged for this and some have been reimbursed so for me it's a bit confusing of who is correct.
Thank you for the heads up.
