"A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said they would look at the footage when they received it to investigate if a motoring offence had been committed."

I know its a standard line from them but how much investigation does it need? Clearly perfectly reasonable driving with no sign of an offence.....

They would certainly fine you for a cracked windscreen obscuring drivers vision out the evidence is clearly shown on this video.

Agreed, MM, my last post was a little tongue in cheek having read a few of the comments on that link - some peope were actually defending the Renault driver.

One even went as far as complaining that the guy with the camera was "hogging the outside lane and should get a ticket" - never mind the fact that the guy was legitimately passing a van, as the video showed, and wasn't far enough past to pull in safely when the vid ended!

That video is unbelievable. I, of all people, admit that I'm sometimes a little bit careless with my clearing of my screens. I'll usually scrape using a scraper both sides of the front and a reasonable size chunk out of the side glass and use the rear heated window to clear that one and the front window heater to clear any of the rest, taking usually about 4 or 5 minutes to do.

That is absolutely horrifying though. Extremely dangerous. The actual snow looks mostly fluffy, why didn't he/she just turn on their wipers and try and clear it?

I think some of you may have misinterpreted what has happened in the video, to me, the snow on the screen is from the roof of the car (still not good to set off with the snow on the car).

    From Ask the Police:
Whilst there is no specific offence relating to snow on a vehicle's roof, it is advisable to remove any loose snow before commencing your journey. If it slips over the windscreen, or flies into the path of another car, it could cause a hazard for you or another road user and could leave you open to being penalised for a number of offences, such as 'driving without due consideration' or 'using a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition.'

If it was just loose snow from the roof of the car then a couple of swipes of the windscreen wipers would shift it so I'd guess that it was frozen snow and that the vehicles side and rear window would probably been covered in frost and snow as well.

There really is no excuse for driving like that even if snow was on the roof. Its easy to brush off. I always carry a brush/scraper/deicer in my car along with other stuff. The snow not only blocks the drivers vision but could blow off and hit someone or make them swerve
