Their booklet specifies "Recent Inland Revenue tax documentation, e.g. tax code notification" in both List A - To confirm your name, and List B - To confirm your address.

Therefore, they probably mean the new P2 letter, which does also show your address. A P60 doesn't. However, it should still count as a confirmation of name.

Also, you needed to send 3 documents: 2 from List A and 1 from List B.

You could seek recompense... but if you want something done quickly I would try asking to be put on to a manager and explain calmly at first and then increase the volume if you are getting nowhere.

What is wrong with Sainsbury's? I don't remember other financial institutions going to these lengths to check ID.

I begrudgingly sent my driving licence through the post as they couldn't ID me, I won't do it again though! I'm not at all comfortable with this procedure.

A member of my family has been asked for ID. They are on the electoral roll and everything. Just what kind of checks do Sainsbury's make?

I only needed to confirm my name, not my address, so I only had to send two documents (from List A, if I remember rightly).

  • I received a large loan cheque and was reluctant to send it in the post with the envelopes provided by Sainsbury’s. HSBC who I have my current account with could not pay it in for me because the cheque was not an HSBC cheque. So I decided to pay it at my local Sainsbury's store which provides an "Instore Deposit Point".

Having read the small print from my receipt I realise this was a mistake. What Sainsbury's actually do is collect all the deposited cheques from that day and then post them to Sainsbury’s Bank the following day. So my cheque effectively arrived a day later than if I posted it myself.

Then comes the wait for the money to clear. If you read the small print any cheques paid in take SEVEN working days to clear.

So due to the delay in posting my cheque to Sainsbury's Bank and them actually receiving it, its going to take TWO whole weeks to clear into my account. The trouble is I needed the money this weekend.

I paid it in on Thursday 2nd August but my money won’t be available until Thursday 16th August.

It’s no wonder they can afford to pay market beating interest rates. They are earning interest on my money for seven days before I can get my hands on it.

So my advice to anyone wanting to pay in a cheque is this. Pay it into your current account and then make an electronic transfer into your Sainsbury’s internet saver.
  • The current situation with my Sainsbury's internet saver account is as follows:

    1. My P60 was originally accepted as a form of I.D., and so my account was fully operational

    2. I have therefore been making deposits and withdrawals online

    3. Last Sunday, when I tried to access my account, it said 'Awaiting Authorisation', so I am now unable to withdraw funds

    4. All of my money is now tied up in the Sainsbury's savings account, and my rent/council tax are due this week - I cannot withdraw money to my current account as I had planned

    5. Sainsbury's has said that my P60 should not have been accepted (it was initially, and now it has been rejected, thereby putting my account in a state of suspense), and that I now need to send another form of I.D. before I can make withdrawals

    6. Consequently I will have to use my interest-charging overdraft to pay for my rent/council tax

    7. By the time Sainsbury's receive my new form of I.D. and authorise my account (again!), about ten days will have passed, during which time all of my money will be tied up in the Sainsbury's saver!

    Not really on, is it?

Really am going to give it to Sainsbury's after this!

These people are PATHETIC. I see now why people don't change banks. Seven weeks and I'm still not activated despite sending every bit of paper I own
    .

AML is going to wreck the finance industry.

I hope Sainsbury's go to the wall first.
