Talking of cars I did deliberately start a heated discussion this morning as OH was talking more rhubarb than ever.

OH has been watching Top gear which all of my gang are obsessed with  and apparently it said that now with modern cars and all of their technology the official stopping distances that have been in the highway code forever are now defunct as modern cars now can stop safely in a much shorter distance.

I said this was fine but all the other factors that can influence the stopping distance of a car are just the same as they have always been - the moderness and technology of a car is just one factor, a major one but not necessarily the over all deciding factor in how fast a car can come to a full stop in an emergency situation

stopping distances are also affected by the road and weather conditions, driver alertness, awareness and reaction times etc

I have noticed most youngsters now race up to junctions and then slam on the brakes at the last second - possibly watching too much Top Gear
Totally agree! My OH is also obsessed with Top Gear and and talks this same rubbish  The fact is there are still old cars on the road and we cannot have different rules for different cars, it would be too confusing. Therefore leave stopping distances and speeds the way they are is what I say :p

Speaking of OH, he got into a massive row with our next door neighbours last night over them blocking our drive again. I really thought I'd have to stop him punching the man next door  Don't understand why they keep doing this when they know it upsets OH and he looks like a contestant from Worlds Strongest Man! So man next door told OH that they are moving because they don't want to live next door to us :o I hope it's soon because now I'm having to sneak in and out of the house because I don't know how to act if I see them now :o
