Whilst I totally agree with you.....(you knew there would be a but...) I saw some research, cant remember where, but the upshot of it was that over the course of a lifetime, renting and buying were overall, about the same cost. It took into account mortgage payments, new boilers and roofs, etc. It certainly made you think.
Absolutely, that's definitely an upside to renting - if something breaks you just give the landlord a call. I would think the cost is fairly similar, but when you retire and your funds are reduced,(hopefully) you own a house that you can live in, which cannot be said for renting.
The other upside to renting is that you can be more picky about what area you live in as (at least round here), the rent is not as variable as the house prices - or not when I've looked anywayFinal cigarette smoked 02/01/18

Morning all - virtual hugs to all and sundry - we seem to have staggered through January in a motley fashion but Feb is proving to be even more depressing.
On the minus side I am still wading through the washing mountain après holiday washing - usually love doing laundry but I am feeling really resentful about it, the sheer volume of washing - masses of other things I need to do but I cant start yet (out on Tuesday, visitors on Wednesday, will never get ahead) - another 3 loads to do and 2 loads from this morning I've got to try and find somewhere to dry  and the cases are not properly emptied yet either
Meanwhile I am going through the family fortunes to check to see if all bills paid and we are still solvent - dreading this and I've not looked at the online banking for 3 weeks since before we went away
I've also had my other !!!!!! statement - just the clubcard deals vouchers but NO POINTS OR MOCS  Do they really not want my custom anymore? Last quarter I managed to cobble together a £25 click and collect shop with the mailing MOcs and points and get it down to about £12.
On the plus side JL have sent both OH and myself a mailing with one coffee and cake voucher each valid until May so at least we have a couple of excuses to go up to Liverpool for a day out.
Oh well I had better get on with it ....“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
