It is a pity that this article is associated with a link to selling:(

A very serious subject BUT the link to selling on it makes me :(

  • Morning all,

Gone and done it again... An APG that needs using today. Grrr.

I've been so bogged down with the whole house renovation & the self employment, I've 'dropped a ball' so to speak. Going to look at scheduling in a few hours a week for tasks like APG'ing so I can TRY and keep on top of things.

Anything to look out for on todays shop?

    Have a good day everyone.

P.s. also thanks EMMAP looking into a lot of these blogs lately including 1500days and Mr Money Moustache even started one of my own The Mini Millionaire to look at our relationship with money & happiness. Also I find that when I make myself publicly accountable for something I work harder to achieve it.

    Good morning.
I have read the blog and I still think the writer has no idea what it to be really poor.I remember walking 3 miles pushing the old pram with my mum to the coal yard to get a hundred weight of coal. The coal man used to give us extra. She used to buy bones from the butcher for soup. The home baking section of supermarkets is the smallest section in the shop today. There is a severe lack of education in this department in this country today.

On another note received a very strange letter on Thursday from my building society.
It said as a gesture of goodwill they have cleared my mortgage account and closed it. There was over £39k outstanding. It also says they will send my deeds in 14 days if they have them ( they dont they sent them back years ago) I nearly fainted. Think its a mistake but we shall see!!!

Thanks Emma for posting the blog link. It makes interesting reading.m

Like many others here, I never had a privileged upbringing. My mum stayed at home to look after us, my dad worked two jobs. Going clothes shopping was rare as most of our clothes were secondhand. Our house never had central heating or double glazing. If any of us wanted something, we had to work hard to earn it, whether it be household chores for a week, garden tasks or even our paper rounds. My paper round was a Sunday one, with ALL of the usual Sunday supplements, and covered a 3 mile radius.

Yet my parents still managed to take us away for a two week holiday every year, usually to a haven park. My parents did the best job they could with us with the very limited money that was coming in.

I always think that the things you go through in life make you the person you are today. You can go one way or the other. I generally take the "learn from it" route. It's what has made me the person I am today.

I have been in a similar position to the blogger. It's amazing how resourceful you can be when you need to be :)

    Totally with you there QoC.

I never felt I was missing out as a child - except perhaps missing out on seeing my Dad who worked long hours so my Mum could stay at home and look after us. Our holidays were a few days in a caravan at Skegness.

When I left home in the 80s I wanted everything new - I guess that was my age and the times we lived in - fortunately our flat was small. Very quickly our mortgage went through the roof and times changed.

Now, after being made redundant twice and coming very close to losing my house, I have a completely different outlook. My house is full of gratefully accepted second hand furniture - which I actually prefer anyway - and, with the help of my Elite friends, I love bargain-hunting and loathe paying full price for anything. :)
