Wrong currency received

Hi everyone

I'v had an interesting occurrence - I have ordered £250 worth of Hungarian Florints from one of the recommended currency exchanges on MSE, and have actually been sent £1,500 worth of Japanese Yen.

They must have been alerted by the other party quite quickly (them being £1,250 out of pocket!), and it sounds as if they were rather put out as they were travelling the next day.

The bank were quickly on the phone to my Mum (she ordered them as she would be at home to receive them on my behalf from the courier) the same day. They told her they would be sending an envelope to send the funds back to them, but not before suggesting it might be easier for her to deliver the currency to the other person at Heathrow! (some 180 miles away). I really couldn't believe it. The other party have now been reimbursed so I am told.

Anyway, there's been no further contact and no envelopes to retunr the Yen have arrived today. I wonder where I stand if they don't pursue the funds - I would still need my Hungarian Florints within the next couple of weeks....

  • I'd insist that the person collecting the Yen, bring the Florints with them.

It may not be a 2 way mix-up.......the mistake could easily involve more than 2 people.

    So?

They are a currency dealer, so must have spare currency on hand.

They take some Florints and Yen from their stock, do the 2 switches, then place the returned currency back into stock.
