  • Hi Everyone, I'm new to mystery shopping after being recommended to give it a try from a friend and to start with Gapbuster, from joining they showered me with emails and phonecalls, the same jobs were available for a few weeks and I took on my first assignment of a fast food restaurant after being given an increased rate, this was last week and went with no issues. I did another job search to do some more and found a number of new ones that had just become available with two within a mile of the location of my first assignment, however the rate was a lot lower so I sent an enquiry in to ask if the rate could be increased, they agreed but only by a small amount, I asked if they could agree for the same rate as my original assignment to be told they couldn't but now one of the jobs had been assigned to another shopper, when I did the same job search it appears all (15-20) are now unavailable apart from one.

Are they having me on here, it seems strange they were only last week struggling to get people to do similar jobs yet managed to get new ones assigned within a few days? I feel I should play their bluff and just hold out until they start showering me with emails and calls and agree to increased rates.

I think it's very unlikely they are having you on. Most assignments will go fairly quickly and it's difficult to second guess what is happening. Waiting for the price to go up can work, but it also risks someone else snapping it up. No-one can really tell why a job is available late, maybe somebody else dropped it or messed it up or it is not where the shoppers are or the students are all in exams.

What you really need to do in my view is get a few under your belt to show you are reliable and can record accurate times then the offers will come from there.
  • Thanks Nebulous, I put an enquiry in about this yesterday and they've advised because I'm new they're withholding them and have actually ask for permission to do them, fine by me. I think the first person I spoke to was telling me a little white lie.

Does anyone know when HS brands should be paying? I thought it was end of November for October work but I'm wondering if I've got it wrong as I've not had payment.

Seems to very much be a case of whenever they feel like it, I've worked for them 3 times and had to chase the money each time, and I know I'm not the only one. Definitely an agency to avoid.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

I have a feeling that HS Brands normally take around 6 weeks to pay, based on feedback from other boards. I did some work for the first time for them in November and so think I will be lucky to see it this side of Xmas. My experience is that any of the 'foreign' MS companies eg Helion, Bare are that they are longer pay cycles.

45-60 days from the completion of the job.

Not my experience at all, they do take longer to pay but I've not had to chase them.

So now, just three days later, they've called me up offering me the increased rate I asked for on a long list of assignments lol
