so are the expenses printing, mileage etc. Do they usually offset the reimbursement

if you claim expenses for internet, office etc do you have to tell your insurer you are running a business from home?

wearing a reimbursement item today. Half the time you use your own money towards it anyway as the reimbursements are so stingey

The reimbursement and fees will cover your mileage and printing etc but won't leave you much profit so you won't ever get rich from mystery shopping from one company alone.

Regarding insurances my take has been that youre self employed and not running a business per see from your home. Its similar to when people contract for companies and have to do their own tax at the end of the year, you wouldn't class them as running a business so shouldn't class yourself as either.

For clarity I think its intended for when premises are being used commercially like if you were cutting hair, doing nails, meeting clients etc when you are renting it as a residential property. Working from home doing paperwork is a very different thing to this and won't invalidate any insurances.

I have been doing some car negotiations and just wondered if anyone had any tips, I have been rubbish at them, sales people adding things on to quotes I didn't ask for, not getting discount, on one occasion could not even get a printed quote.
Any tips for a newbie pls

There's definitely one brand that rarely discounts, others might depend on the salesperson. Make it clear you want to make a decision soon, let them think it might be that day if that helps, say you've already had a discounted quote from whichever dealer is going to be their closest competitor for a comparable model, say you've never paid list price for a new car.
When they add things onto quotes eg Gap insurance, servicing, I often say that's definitely something I'll consider when I actually make the purchase, but I find it much easier to compare all the initial quotes when they just have the car on. Hope that helps a bit :)

Have you ever bought a new car? Did you behave in the way you are told to in the brief? The car shops I did were a nightmare and I gave up. I'm very comfortable in a showroom, enjoy haggling and should be ideal for these visits but it just didn't work for me. The scenarios I have seen are just not realistic.

I couldn't submit a report because the garage were misquoting the list price of the car, they had inflated it by about £150. I was told to go back and get them to requote with the 'correct' list price, despite getting a decent discount. The salesman pointed out, quite rightly that the important thing was the net figure and he was convinced no-one else would beat the price he had already given me.

So not a greatr deal of help, other than to tell you you are not alone. These are complicated scenarios for experienced shoppers.

I could not agree more. I had one Salesperson state that he only gave quotes if both parties were present (My wife and I). So no you are not alone I have stopped doing them as well.

I must admit I let a job go on a site which I was thinking of doing. This was a first for me but it looked so complicated and seemed to want to not pay you at every twist and turn. It just did not seem worth the hassle.

I have also done one today and I can't log in to enter the results. My printer was out of ink today so I could not print the brief and realised I had not done everything so may go back tomorrow as the other bits are more observations but what a nuisance. Don't like to blag it.
  • I too have stopped doing them. I did them about 7 years ago and it was easier then. Tried again last year and wanted to smash the salesman in the face for his patronising attitude. I promised myself "never again".

My husband and I were genuinely looking for a new car recently and came across another patronising a*hole. Loved the car but hated him. He lost the sale because of it.

Hello just nipping into this thread with one question - does anyone know if there is a problem with the MS shopping company GR - not sure if I'm allowed to mention company names. Asking as I need to write reports for 2 MS visits I did today and the website won't work keeps saying error - I know my login is correct and that I was logged in last night. I can't get through by phone says the number you dialled is not available. I've tried on different devices.

Bit worried now as got to submit rests within 24 hours and wanted to do it whilst all fresh in my head and I've not got the reports only on my account with GR.

Hope its a temp computer glitch their end as if I can't login I can't write my reports and claim my fee.

If anyone else is with GR MS group would you mind trying to login to check?

    Thanks so much!
