Wikipedia lists a couple of spin off of Truecrypt that claim to enhance security where Truecrypt left off.
I've just installed Veracrypt and it looks very similar to Truecrypt. Interface seems to function in the same way.0 -
Diskcryptor is spouted as being a good replacement for Truecrypt for Full Disk Encryption. Saying that, I'm still happy using Truecrypt for an encrypted container.0

Ah! Gotcha! Not an eBook in the common parlance but a hard drive the manufacturer called an eBook! :-$
I'd use one of the truecrypt spinoffs - fact is even if there *is* an NSA backdoor, it's unlikely they care what you are doing enough to come and clone/steal the drive, and snooping family members won't have any way to decrypt it anyway.0
