Left without internet

Apologies in advance if this is a long read.

Basically, I started living in a flat with 2 others (we're all students, but it's not student accommodation) in September. We got a contract for BT Infinity back then. One of my housemates made the BT account and we'd just give her the money for the bills etc.

We all left the flat during the Christmas period and returned to find no internet. The hub had been sent back by said housemate - she'd decided she's moving out. She claimed that the contract had been terminated due to us not paying the bills, but requested no money from us for termination costs which is fishy to me. As she knew she was moving out I'm guessing she just cancelled it and paid herself.

Now we're in the position of trying to find a new broadband contract, however we'll only be in the house until May/June and the cancellation fees for a 12/18 month contract when we'll only be there for 4 months are daunting to say the least.

If anyone has any advice on internet options I would be very grateful! Can't help but feel more than a little screwed over...

  • There are monthly contracts out there, but they come with installation fees reflecting the wholesale charges, and cease fees (the wholesale cease fee charged to ISPs is £30).

Generally these fees get rolled into long contracts, hence the early termination charges, but if you are prepared to accept them you can get broadband on a month by month basis. This applies to ADSL, I don't know of anyone offering monthly FTTC.
