I have been using LogMeIn Pro to connect my home computer to my office. As I don't use it very often, the £76+ per year seems expensive - especially as I experience quite a lot of disconnections.
Can anyone recommend an alternative, please?

Windows remote desktop......
It's free, i'm using it right now.
It's not as secure as going through a VPN tunnel, but it's still using 128bit RC4 encryption, more than secure enough for most people.
I'm convinced people buy these software packages without checking to see if Windows already does this stuff.
It's like all this expensive backup software, what's wrong with good old MSDOS batch files?
Sure RDP requires a bit of research to set up correctly, but it ain't rocket science.
For example, a proper password policy is essential and make sure the host locks out after 3 login attempts, this will stop any brute force password attacks.
Setting up port forwarding can be tricky, you need to pick a port and get the router to forward traffic to the host machine on it's RDP port.
But these aside windows RDP is still the fastest remote desktop out there.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thank you!
I used LogMeIn Free for quite some time so decided I'd pay for LogMeIn Pro when Free ended. Decided it's too expensive so will give something else a try.0 -
Unfortunately, I cannot use Windows Remote Desktop as it's only for certain versions of Windows. It's OK at my office where I have Windows 7 Professional but at home, I only have Windows 7 Home Premium.
I've been trying Chrome Remote Desktop but it seems that someone needs to be on the office computer to give me an access code every time - not must use when I am trying to access it from home!
Other recommendations gratefully received!0 -

Ask your office IT person, while I'd suggest Teamviewer you may be breaking your company policies by using anything, or anything but the "standard" configuration.0 -
I use Teamviewer, no issues so far, works quite well.0

It's not even near secure unless you know what you are doing to secure it. The only way you can set this up is by directly exposing the RDP port from your workstation to the internet, which also involves port forwarding (beyond a good majority of people). It becomes slightly more secure if you change the RDP port in the registry (beyond nearly everyone). If my post helped you in anyway, please hit the "Thanks" button! Please note any advice I give is followed at your own risk!0 -
