Meg is settling well, not widdling as much but gets very upset if we ask her to go in her crate at bedtime. I am considering buying her a high sided bed instead to see if that is better for her but I am nervous about her chewing up my furniture. I'm still paying for my corner suite and would be upset if it was destroyed. Ah well, I can't do anything until we get paid at the end of the month.
Aww, bless her. Does she think she's being sent to her crate for being naughty, do you suppose? Can you make her crate a "fun" place to be, perhaps? Maybe give her a small reward if she goes in without prompting, and lots of praise (of course), including during daytime; get her to see the crate as her "safe place" to go to when she wants to rest or retreat from the world for a bit. I assume she's got comfy bedding in there, and a toy or two.:o

Ronnie the Jack Russell is now eight years old, and although he has an ordinary bed for night-time, he still has the option of his crate during the day, and he pops himself in there whenever he wants a rest; when he stays with us, we put the crate in the lounge and just leave the door open for him to use as he wishes, and if we're both busy on the computer, he'll sit in there and watch us.:o

    Hi LameWolf

Thanks for replying, I think what it is is that her last owner rehomed her to us because she was out of the house from 8.30 till 5.30 and Meg was put in her crate for all that time on her own :(:(. We leave the door open and she pops herself in during the day for a snooze quite happily and obviously as I rarely leave the house she feels quite happy to have company. I will try bribing her with some treats, she gets lots and lots of praise for going in and settling herself it's just at bedtime she wees herself and is obviously upset. She is very good once she is in her crate and sleeps through the night with no crying or anything like that. Phew, it's like having a toddler around again though :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. She is only 5 months old so we have high hopes for her to settle.

    Afternoon all,

Chilly again, had a little smattering of snow this morning but it didn't lay. Bit chilly on the playground too.

Took two big bags of stuff to the charity shop. I am getting quite full on with this kondo/decluttering lark :) I've been round a few shops looking for a basic tin opener. You know the sort that you poke in the tin and have to move your hand up and down to move/open the tin. All I can find is the ones with the twisty handle bit. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place or it's a health and safety issue!

I've got a pork and mustard thing going on in the slow cooker and I'll bung some dumplings in shortly as the men like them.

Judi - You'll get so used to them not being there, you'll hate it when they come home and disrupt your tidy house :)

    Have a good evening all.

    Hi all,

Weather cold and yuk here but no snow, so shouldn,t moan :)

I,m not feeling 100% still, keep going hot and cold and have been sick on and off over the last few days, not sure why, maybe its still the flu... Don't 'feel' ill though

Anyway, made Leek and Potato soup for lunch as house full of hubbies builders still....

We have a skip on the drive, so intend to junk as much stuff as poss whilst its here - hope the kids don,t sit still for too long ;)

YS fishcakes and wedges for dinner

Judi - think of your manless state as a minibreak - watch those films they hate, give yourself a good pamper session and eat what YOU like, not pleasing the rest :)

Off to feed the moggies now - take care all x

  • Evening everyone, well so much for well laid plans of Mice Men and Lurcherwalkers it would seem. Having got organised, done the early morning dog walk and got myself out of the house for the 9.13 bus I had a phone call at 11.30 to say the horrid plummer I was avoiding hadn't turned up but sent one of his employees and the prep for the shower was nearly finished so I could come home again. Oh yeah??? I got back at 1.45 and He Who Knows (bless him) made me a cuppa and harnessed up that hound ready for his afternoon walk and was just going out the front door when I got a wet back, I was leaning on the work surface under the airing cupboard and guess what happened next? the wall developed a fairly enthusiastic waterfall, under the plaster to begin with and then 'pop' out came a fountain all over the surfaces and floor. I screamed and they came running and the plummer thought it was funny!!!! said he was certain the tank was empty, 'oh Dear' never mind it's only a bit!!! Grrrrrrrr!!! The builder took my measure (apparently I had my 'GRAPEFRUIT' face on!) and said he'd make all good but then dropped the news that the tank they had planned to put in the attick wouldn't fit because we have 'funny joists' too narrow so they can't fit the tank or gubbins for the shower until Monday. Cup overfloweth time!!! To say I'm fed up is not understating the fact. We have DD2, hubby and that Zebra coming up for the weekend and currently all is chaos with builders tools in 3 rooms upstairs and muddy floors down here that it isn't worth cleaning as it all happens again tomorrow. I KNOW it will be nice when it's finished BUT it's perishing awful while it's being done isn't it? Grumpily, Lyn xxx.

DH's birthday so made him a huge breakfast and home made chips in goose fat for lunch with apple crumble and custard for dessert. Then weighed him and he has lost a pound

Made a huge fish pie for evening meal and used loads of pans etc but worth it as he loved it. Too icy to go out for a birthday cake so made him home made pancakes with freshly squeezed lime juice and sugar
which he seemed to enjoy. Have enough for tomorrow's lunch in the fridge.

DD(25) came over tonight and gave her a home made meal that had been frozen to take back and she wanted advice on using her slow cooker. As she has not time to look up recipes etc I ended up writing down a basic SC recipe that could be adapted to use chicken pieces, mince, diced beef or lamb and then fancied up with different veg or spices etc. Not really a recipe just a quick and adaptable few ideas of my own.

Also suggested she gets some frozen veg like peppers, onions, mushrooms and some diced meat with frozen garlic etc to keep in her freezer so she always has something she can cook .

Now she has moved out and is on her own (unlike uni where she shared with friends) she is finding how fast salad veg goes off and how difficult it is to cook for one and use up food. I pointed out that once she had cooked up a basic mince, chicken , lamb or beef base then she could portion it out and freeze then later combine with rice, pasta, beans, potatoes etc so she was not always eating the same thing.

    Hugs to all
