O/S Daily Wednesday 21st January 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, it doesn’t look as cold this morning, but we are forecast the possibility of snow today – so as we usually have really cold temperature’s, it warms up and then snows – we’re waiting to see if we do get some snow.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work.
Dinner last night was the LO lamb, with roasted new potatoes, carrots, peas, braised red cabbage and gravy. DS2 isn’t that keen on having the LO meat heated up in the gravy so was moaning, but it’s too expensive to just throw LO’s away, he did eat all the veg etc and he’s certainly not wasting away! I remembered to get the chicken breasts out of the freezer to defrost, so I think we’ll have chicken breasts, topped with stuffing and then wrapped in bacon, I’ll do some mash, veg and gravy with it.
Work was ok yesterday, was steady in the morning as we had quite a few staff but then were left with not many in the afternoon, so we were busier. Back at my normal office today – but only working until lunchtime, then will come home and do all the normal chores.
Not ever so happy, as my car is playing up again, doing exactly the same as it did prior to going into the garage and they supposed had found the fault and fixed it – it was “fixed” on 27 December – I should think I’ve only driven at most 100 miles since and it’s the same again! I managed to ring them yesterday and it’s booked in to go back in tomorrow, I’m going to tell them it needs a thorough going over as obviously if it’s the same thing again, then something else must be causing that to happen. Also not going to be happy if I’ve got to have the same job done again, and then they find something else that’s causing it – so I’ll have to pay for all of it to be fixed – I’ll have to wait and see. I’m just hoping they can find the cause and it’s not too expensive to fix.
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:
Thanks for your comments yesterday, I found myself going 'Yes – exactly that, oh these people understand me'
I am anti-social, I hate being in a crowded/busy place (the various conversations all going on at once drive me nuts) and I need to be able to see the exit so I can escape. I also don't understand the need for small-talk, I don't see the point of it, lol. I don't confuse that with chit-chat with a friend though. I work better by myself, I get so much more done. Funnily enough, the same people who think I should be 'normal' (!) are fascinated by the greenhouses, veg patch and chickens and sometimes say they wish they had time for it themselves. I have time because I don't work, the reason I don't have to work is because as income went up we didn't buy a bigger house or a newer car or start spending a fortune on holidays! I also work quite hard at keeping expenditure as low as possible. I would like a part time job though, it's just finding the right one with the right hours. I really don't understand people at all. Forums and social media suit me much better than having to put up with face to face conversations
Mr tru isn't always helpful, he sometimes agrees with the comments and starts conversations with 'Most other people.......'
I wound myself up writing that post yesterday, lol, so I took my temper out on the house. It's now gleaming and a few minutes after I'd finished, my yarn order arrived. It felt like a reward

Master tru was home from work by 2pm yesterday, he headed for the kitchen to make something to eat and decided to batch cook. I was a bit
He wanted sausages, mash and veg but made loads extra (not the veg, we all like that freshly cooked) and portioned it all up. Ate his meal then set about making lots of pasta meals, some for the house and some to take to work.
It's wet and miserable here – I'm jealous of your snow sistercas
– so will just potter about the house. My hip's a bit sore but I feel ready to up my exercises a bit so I'll start the slighty harder routine on my yoga DVD. Truthfully I don't think I'll ever be as bendy as I was before
but I am still determined

tru - Just be you, we like you that way!
sistercas - we have snow too, started about 6 last night so I will have to try to get the car sorted.
Had a really rough night, DD was sick before she went to bed and continued to be sick every 20 minutes till about 5am. Although she's 22 she's still my baby and anyway, she's not very quiet! At least she has a day off today, I on the other hand have a busy day! Hoping she feels better.
Housework fairly up to date, sausage and saute pots for tea (found some cooked, boiled potatoes in the freezer so will fry them off).
Take care. XX0 -
Good Morning All x
Cold and damp here today, and it looks like either sleet or snow later.
Dinner last night was that stew (yummy) and tonight will be something quick as im at Weight Watchers. DH has a chilli i defrosted overnight.
DW done, animals fed and walked.
We now have a problem with our post as in the last 4 months 3 out of 5 parcels have not made it to us, and 4 out of 6 letters sent not been received. But what can we do about it. Complaining to RM will just take forever. Dont get me wrong its not our postie (he is well known to us) we believe it is further up the chain. What would you do?
Work yesterday was colder than ever as the door were open for ages whilst a delivery was taken in so today i have donned my thermals.
Anyhoo better get on as i hear movement from above. Hugs to all in need xxBright Blessings xx0 -
Morning all,
Sistercas I am jealous of your snow too we have drizzly rain which is just about all we get here.
Off to work for me day 5 and I am getting more and more tired I cant wait for this week to be over.
Got my uncle coming tonight to stay over and take my mum back to Hereford with him in the morning, she will stay with him and my aunt for a couple of weeks while her house is being done. Had a quick clean round last night, changed the bed and put a wash on so fairly tidy.
Tonight we are having pie mash and veg, there is a local shop that makes their own pies which are really delish, filled to the top with filling I am not sure what flavour we are having as mum bought them but they are all very nice.
Hoping my tumble dryer will arrive today or tomorrow, we have some moving about to do in the utility, shelves to come down etc which will have to wait till the weekend. I cant wait to get it, it will make life so much easier and hopefully cut down the condensation / damp in the house.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -

Morning all. Good covering of snow through the night but the gritters have already been round so the roads are clear thank goodness. We thought we'd have a bus ride to Skipton today though whether the stallholders on the market will brave the elements remains to be seen! Then we thought a nice walk along the canal before we have lunch somewhere. I must remember to take some bread for all the ducks and swans.
I'm glad you have got over the remarks that upset you yesterday Tru. I'm on your side too as I'm another that's happy with my own company (and of course that of close friends, DH and my family) I really don't enjoy parties and gatherings where you have to make polite conversation with strangers. I'm not in to socialising these days.
I defrosted a pack of Sainsbury cooking bacon yesterday as I wanted some for the lentil and bacon soup I was making in the sc. Then I chopped the rest up and fried it all well. Some went in omelettes with some sad looking mushrooms for lunch and some went in a tomato, pepper and mascarpone sauce with pasta for tea. Still some left so that went in the freezer for adding to another meal. It stretched a long way for a £1.19 pack of cooking bacon and, for once, there was very little fat to cut off!
Have a good day all. Take care if you are driving in the snow. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Hope everyone is well.
Still dark outside, but not so cold as there has been no frost, so no car to scrape. Looks damp though.
Not been on for a couple of days, as I have been crocheting myself a hat courtesy of youtube. Very easy tutorial to follow and am very pleased with the result. It only took be a couple of evenings. Thinking of making one for DD and then going to watch more youtube to try more things.
Dinner tonight will be Jacket Potatoes with salad, cheese, beans and other bits. Have had 4 NSDs, but need a few bits this afternoon when I finish work.
Going to the gym with DD this afternoon, and then need to do more washing and ironing. It never ends!:rotfl:
Have a good day everyone, stay warm and safe in the snow.SPC 11 #4450 -
Morning everyone.
Just looked out the window and there's not any fresh snow, just very iced up lying snow from the weekend. Another cold night in Glasgow.
Today I am taking my mum to the hospital, long standing appointment so nothing 'bad'. She can't manage black cab taxis anymore as her legs can't quite manage that half stretch/crouch needed to get out of it. Last time she ended up sitting on the floor and dropping her legs over the rim. Not very dignified for an 86 year old!
I'll sit in the little cafe and do some work/read a book depending on what I feel like.
My mission to find an oil-based moisturiser yesterday was successful though I didn't get the one I went for (wasn't in stock). Instead got a really lovely one in B*ots which immediately made my skin feel smooth and hydrated. Great smell too. Just a little worried as I'm allergic to Jnson's baby oil and this is made by them too.
Again, not organised enough to have a food plan today. It's odd, when at home I know exactly what is there, what is needed or what is wanted but here I stumble around. Not my house or kitchen so I suppose it's difficult.
Anyway, off to make mum a cup of tea.
Hope everyone keeps well and warm.
PS - tru - I am exactly the same. Never go to parties or work stuff or large concerts etc. Can't do 'small talk' as I don't understand it. Mind you my brother was an Aspergers sufferer and I suspect I have a touch of autism in me too. Only a slight touch but enough to make me really uncomfortable in most social interactions!0
