Problem with all "cloud" storage is that, despite assurances, it can never be 100% secure. So don't upload anything that you wouldn't want to be seen in public, because one day it might be.
I'm thinking especially of bank details.0 -

I'm thinking especially of bank details.
Yes, agreed if you follow the 'Trust No One' methodology.
That's why I use Boxcryptor to encrypt stuff first, before uploading to the cloud.0 -
I'm pretty happy with Sugar Sync. You can pick and choose which folders and sub folders get backed up (I have screen grabs of internet banking payments excluded for example).
It's not free but once you exchange the $ into £ and divide by 52 to get the weekly cost, it's really not that expensive
The 100gb plan paid for in a lump sum currently works out at 96p per week (exchange rate via https://www.xe.com , obviously it will be a bit poorer via PayPal- but no charges/fees as you would get when paying with a credit card direct).0 -
I wouldn't use any third-party NSA-controlled online storage provider to store personal information, including pictures.
I would buy a reasonably cheap NAS (network attached storage) that you can leave at home and access from anywhere. Prices range from £50 (=rubbish) to a grand or more. With some NAS you can also stream your music from anywhere.
I do have 200GB on Google Drive but I rarely use it nowadays.0 -

You do remember Megaupload.com don't you?
As well as the dodgy stuff on there was quite a lot of perfectly legit stuff on it as a genuine file sharing/storage facility.
Come the day the FBI/NSA closed it down and confiscated the servers.
Those with any data on it both perfectly legit as well as dodgy were left high and dry - and without their data....and still are so far as I am aware.
So - are you confident your cloud storage is not going to be suddenly closed down and vanish into the ether.0 -
Yes, that is also another risk of cloud storage to consider, along with using it for sensitive personal data.
I back up three times across various formats however, I do not rely solely on cloud storage, as is good practise.0
