I've had both clay pavers and tarmac laid over the last 3 years and while the blocks looked good for the 1st year the went green and gaps filled with moss/weeds even though we had more expensive sand type filler between, it didn't stop it, I wouldn't have blocks again, too much hard work, maybe it would be better on a sloping drive as ours was dead flat so didn't allow water run off

Tarmac prices are actually rising - believe it or not - our suppliers have put prices up by £5 per ton in some cases

I'm struggling to understand why anyone would paint tarmac!
The chap over the road from us paints the footpath outside his house every year. You should've seen his face when BT came along & dug it up. He must have friends in high places though, the final repair was immaculate.

Had block paving in our last property wouldn't have it again, as john-306 says too much trouble with weeds and moss etc., plus ants thought the sand between the blocks was a home from home, used to clean it using a pressure washer which blasted the sand out and means re-sanding it every year.
