BT Slow Broadband in Rural Area

Hi all,
Bit of a dilemma on what to do. I’m in a BT contract to November2015 but I’m strongly considering Satellite broadband due to my poor speed of1mb or less at times.
Been with BT for a year, had lot of difficulty getting connectedbut eventually did with thanks to a few helpful BT staff.
Now firstly I must state my service has been reliable with BT,with me always having broadband but the speed is unbelievably slow, with atvery best 1mb.
I would happily pay over the odds for infinity or anythingfaster than 1mb so I could watch the likes of netflix or stream a movie.
I Have spoken to BT a number of times about my speed andregister interest in getting BT infinity on weekly basis but my last chatconversation left me stumped. The advisor said I could pay to upgrade the lineon the road myself between myself and my neighbours???
I was annoyed that they suggested this as my grandmother’shome beside me was without phone for a week and both BT engineers whom workedon the line said that line on the road is laughable and most of it wouldactually crumble in your hands it’s that old and corroded. He actually showedmy granny the condition of the line running along the road that had been thecause. So for someone to suggest I pay for an upgrade on the line which BTshould have replaced 10 years ago was downright rude.
What I am wondering, is it worth getting all my 40 neighbours on my road to sign a petition toget BT to do something or would they even acknowledge it or do I just move to satellitebroadband???
If I knew I’d get an improved connection I would stick withBT but I need better speeds as opening emails is even a struggle at times!

How do you know they should have upgraded it 10 years ago? And if they had would that have made any difference to the speed you can get do you think?0 -
If you haven't seen them already then these sites might help:
http://nibroadband.com/ Which is the Official Site for the roll out of fibre broadband in NI and https://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search which will give you detailed info about what is enabled at your local exchange.
Have a look at the first link and also the BT fibre website and see if there is an expression of interest form. If there is then try and get as many of your neighbours as possible to sign.

if they refuse to do it then yes its worth a petition a case in one remote village was actully won in such way get all on board whom it affects and its right what the engineer seys the cabling from your/ neighburs's homes is usally old copper wiring this runs only as far as the nearest street cabinet so no fibernet in the world is going to change that becouse fiber will only run from the street cabinet to the network so depending on the distance from your home to the street cabinet this looses some speed for me anyway its only 5 minutes walk for me so i have a latencey of 1or2mb lost in transference sounds like your loosing a lot more are you quite far from it?? if so this is the length of cabling that will need replacing and it is down to the engineers to do this ...is your phone line affected ? if so its a matter of urgency as well and should be put farward you and your neighburs should really get on board with thisthe memory of you will grow like flower in garden of me heart:coffee:0

Thanks wiogs, the last BT Engineer who repairedthe fault on line for my gran said that, he explained that the majority of theline was never meant for broadband let alone that volume of people.
Thanks shopbot, I will have a look at the links. I have spoken to most of myneighbours and have asked them all to fill in the expression of interest formso not sure if anything will come from it
thanks wingchun8 , we do live about a mile away fromour nearest exchange and 5 mile outside of the town so I don’t expect miracles.I would love fibre optic but realistic I know it will never happen but I wouldlove a broadband connection that I could stream a movie or download music withease. Our phone line isn’t affected by it, can sometimes hear a crackling in itbut most times phone is good.
It just angers me that when speaking to them on the phone,to an advisor at a call centre at the other side of the world who no more knows orcares where I live, they say that crap that they aim to have 90%(not sure ofexact figure)of the uk with superfast broadband and that they understand myfrustration, BU*LSH*T. If they would do the decent thing and just concentrateon better connection to the rural areas then they would receive less complaints

checked out both links wingchun8, NIdirect say work is scheduled between nowand 2015 but then through the big plan on nibroadband it doesn't mention mypostcode or town even.
I would love BT to just be straight with me and the thousands of other ruralcustomers, as to indicate if you willever have an improved speed or to at least tell you what the engineers say “ nohope of ever having a fast connection”
If there is any BT staff out there that could help me with this , would begreatly appreciated
