can my landlord take me to county court in this case?

    The LL is going to have his investment property repossessed because they failed to maintain payments. That's irrespective of the tenant. It's one of the pitfalls of being a LL

    If you run a business and your customers don't pay you, at one point you will go bust.
    Same for landlords and tenants. Karma being that tenant ends up on the street as well.

    OP, in most cases (including claims for money) apers are valid if served to the defendant's last known address. It is irrelevant that the claimant knows that you are no longer at that address.

    So yes, your landlord can take you to court, and, if you don't respond to the claim, a CCJ can be made against you, which may cause you problems in the future if you ever return to the UK. (CCJs don't lapse, so it won't fall off your record, no matter how long you stay away.)

    Depending on how much he cares, he may also be able to pursue you elsewhere.

    Pay what you owe, and if you feel that the landlord owes you, take advice about the proper way to address that.

    How do you know the Landlord hasn't been paying the mortgage while the tenant has been bouncing the rent or are you just making things up?

    Anyway, thread has served its purpose, OP didn't get the answer they were looking for so will no doubt not be back.

    Is that correct?

    According to this (old) thread

    although CCJs don't lapse the record of it disappears after 6 years so it wouldn't show up on credit searches after that time. (see post no 10)
