Cheapest possible mobile phone (please?)

Hi

I am hoping you guys can help me.

I am after buying a super cheap mobile phone for my OH. Basically it will only be used in emergencies for people to phone my OH. He is not expecting to ring out on it (and doesn't want to have to top it up with £5/10/15 per month etc). Basically he just needs a phone that he can leave switched on for me, or the kids' school and nursery to contact him in an emergency. This is the only use for it and no-one else will have the number. If he needed to ring anyone back, he'd have access to a landline.

I know before i have seen links to phones on this site where they have been £24.99 with £25 credit or something similar. This is the kinda deal i am after (if poss).

** I've seen a nokia phone in tesco for £19.97 (no free credit tho'). Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Virgin have a Nokia for £19.99 that includes a bundle of minutes (100 minutes in the 1st month,100 in the 2nd month).

If he bought this and then registered online he would get £2 credit as well.

Alternatively, Buy this phone via quidco and take the chance of getting £8 cashback, but you would have to pay £3 for delivery, 200 minutes and £2 credit is still available.

surely if he's hardly ever going to use it topping up is the only financially sensible way to go :confused:

I have a Nokia I bought off a colleague at work (unlocked) and I'm with Virgin - £15 keeps me going for about six months (their credit doesn't expire after 1/2/3 months)

Ask around or look on ebay _ I picked up a cracking sharp phone on ebay - can't remember how much it cost me.

I don't understand what you don't understand  or do you just disagree with what I am saying ? This would :confused: me even more.

OK I'll elaborate and hopefully you won't be :confused: any more and hopefully it will help the OP too.

OK so my profile is pretty similar to the OP's OH.

I use my mobile very , very little indeed. Only a tiny number of calls PER YEAR and a higher but still VERY low no of texts.

So when deciding what way to go I immediately rejected the thought of anything on contract - that'd be financial madness - tie myself in and pay xx amount per month whether I use the phone or not  :confused:

so I went for pay as you go with Virgin.

So I add credit to the phone, I usually do somewhere between £10 and £20 - I only realised how long I stretch this credit when replying to a post on here where someone bemoaned their finances and then said they spent £30 A MONTH on mobile   .

I knew I spent shed loads less but only when I went over my figures did I realise I topped up £15 six months earlier and still had some left. - Thus about £15/20 lasts me around 6 months

Is there really a way anyone can run a mobile cheaper ??:confused::confused:

love to hear about it if so.

On that basis I recommended top up and go with Virgin to the OP as being in my opinion a top option to consider

Hope that is clear and no longer :confused:

In which case sounds a good way too.

Your original post didn't clarify that though and with free minutes months 1 and 2 does sound likely to be contract so can you see why I thought it was ? :D

So Zziggi - couple of good options for you there :D :j
