How can I prove LL is re-selling electric?

  • Sorry for the rant. I am so stressed

My Coin Meter is a EMLITE one

clearly you already realise that it is unlawful to charge more than the actual cost for the supply of electricity and/or gas so I'm not sure what else you want from us

at the end of the day it is down to you to take legal action against your LL if he refuses to behave, the regulator will not do it for you

I want to know how I prove this. I want to know who I ring to come out and prove he is charging more than that. Who do I call?
I have rang CAB, the Law Centre, my Council and not one person can help me! I have no idea how to stop him charging me over the odds, I don't know my price per unit, I don't know who my supplier is. I don't know who to turn to.
Everyone asks me what the price per unit is. I have no idea how to even find that on this meter. I'm starting to panic because once it's full, I'm screwed because he will empty it and I will never know how much I put in, how much I actually owed and how much he pocketed. But then if I tell him what I'm doing and it is full, he will refuse to empty it like he did before. So I have no emergency and then what?
And I know he cannot leave me with no electric, but on the 19th he did for nearly 5hours because I wanted to count the money and see the bill. I had to let him empty it and not do all of that because I had the children here and my freezer was starting to defrost.

Post a photo of your meter. Press the display cycle button and post of a photo of everything it shows every time you press the button.

Then write him a letter asking him how much he is paying and charging you for the electric.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • No its not like that one
I cannot post any type of link
but in google if you type in Emlite Coin Meter it comes up straight away
    It's white and 'new' looking

If it is an electronic type meter then google emlite coin meter instructions and the first thing that comes up is a link to that. There should be a button on the front so you can cycle through all the different settings including unit price.

And that should even be written on the meter...

    From manual:

t Total energy recorded by the meter since manufacture.
r1 Energy Register for Rate 1. Amount of energy used at the Rate 1 price.
r2 Energy Register for Rate 2. Amount of energy used at the Rate 2 price.
r1 Price charged in pence/eurocents. The credit value will be reduced by this value each time a kWh is consumed (while Rate 1 is active).
r2 Price charged in pence/eurocents for each kWh consumed (when Rate 2 is active). See note above.
st Amount of standing charge being collected each day in pence/eurocents
dt ch Debt charge. Amount being collected through debt collection each day. Value is in £/ €.
dt t Total amount of debt to be collected in £/€. Will reduce each day by the amount set in the Debt charge register until reduced to zero.
  • I cannot add the pictures but I can write them down

So when I look at the meter it says what I've got left

Then I press it and it says t03225.32
    Then r1 03225.33
    Then r1 020.00
    Then st ch 00.00
    Then dt ch 00.00
    Then dt t 000.00
    Then END
  • I don't think I would have even taken this into account if it wasn't for the girlfriend telling me.
She said she felt bad for me. Sorry for me.

Find out who your current supplier is by calling the right number from here: http://www.gocompare.com/gas-and-electricity/find-your-supplier/

You can then look on their website to find out what their tarrifs are. At the moment you are being charged 20p per kwh and no standing charge which is unusual as most tarrifs have a standing charge...
