Location info probably from your IP address assigned by your ISP. But that is only if your ISP has assigned a location from your area into the network whois record so still not 100% accurate.

Also the first 2 letters of the number plate just show where the car was originally registered, doesn't mean the car is still in that location. Cars get moved up and down the country when they get sold on. Plus big dealer groups and finance companies can registered all their cars from one location, even if the buyer is other end of the country.

I thought the location was due to the cars reg number. The one i put was registered in Scotland and thats where the road was.

OK maybe not. Shows a Yorkshire address which is not where the car was registered or anywhere near where i live. Maybe just random?

Apparently I was caught in Greater Manchester. My car is originally registered from the Dundee office, I live about 30 miles from Dundee, have never been to Manchester in my life, and logged on from home at the moment so my IP should be somewhere nearby ( I believe, actually, it shows as being down near Kirkcaldy somewhere ). Purely random gets my vote.

I just tried the site with a random VRM ... SH12ZLE ... apparently it was caught by Greater Manchester Constabulary - even though no vehicle match was found. ;)

I also tried with on of my old cars (from several years ago) and this one DID have a vehicle match.

We already know it's a prank site. ;)
  • Wonder if Darkmatter entered their reg number it would say something like "unable to record speed above 140mph.."

LOL ! Although, I *think* I'm right in saying, Top Gear tried this, and you have to do over 170 mph before it fails to register :)
