That site as been doing the rounds for years. Seriously not funny anymore. Also the stupid image of some bald specimen with a stupid grin is even older.0

Sorry guys - didn't mean to annoy anyone - I hadn't seen it before and it made me smile - but only at first.
On a serious point how do they get the info so easily?
Obviously they have access to the DVLA data base or similar as they get the vehicle and colour correct.
And they choose a location for the 'pending offence' that is quite possible - not far from one's home address.
I'm not sure that I like how any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry can access my details.0 -
There are other sites that can get vehicle make/model and colour (e.g. AskMID), so I'm sure there must be a means of accessing such basic data quite easily. (it's not data about YOU, just about the vehicle - they cannot get keeper data so easily). And the first 2 letters of the registration generally denote the sales area for the vehicle - as in, people usually buy from near where they live, so are likely to be "caught" in a similar area.0

The make, model, colour etc of a car based on its number plate is commercially available information the DVLA sell, and is used by all sorts of companies, not least practically every car parts/accessories shop in the country to check compatible parts for your car based on its reg.
For location, i've just tried a selection of numberplates and the location is always somewhere in london for me - Over 100 miles from here.
If they did want to get an approximate location however it's not hard for any car registered since 2001, as the first two numbers on a plate tell you where in the country the registration was issued, if your plate starts GS for example the car was registered in Brighton - A full list of plate locations is at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom,_Crown_dependencies_and_overseas_territories#Local_memory_tags0 -
I know that sites such as the tyre retailers, EuroCarParts, and Castrol have access to a lot of info about the car itself - but they should not have access to personal details such as the name and address of the keeper.
bod1457 & nid0 - that's very true about the original registration location but .....
I live in Scotland - my car originally had a Yorkshire Y* plate, but has had a private dateless Northern Ireland plate on it for well over a year.
So a 'pending offence' location some 50 miles of so from my current Scottish address was a possibility.
An offence in Northern Ireland would have shown that they were working on the sales/original location.
None of these offences could truly be possible of course as I do not exceed any speed limits, and the car has never (in my ownership) been to NI.0 -
The location is more likely to be based off your current I.P. address. Each I.P. is regional so they can get it pretty close to where you live. Best way to check would be to try it when you're next away from home, work would probably even work if you're far enough from home.0
