Have a look on the Thomas cook website. I got a good deal for me and OH. We are going to paphos Cyprus at Easter. We are staying at sentido cypria bay for a week all inclusive and it cost a little over £1000. There's a code on the website that gives you money off

OK thank you, great advice!
I think a city break is out this time, as OH would really like a couple of days to lie on the beach and chill... and I'll look into more detail about package vs non package.
I would normally advocate doing it DIY but if you have never travelled abroad before then a package would be easier as they will sort out your transfers and there will be a rep on hand to answer any questions.
Once you have got the hang of it then I'm sure you will arranging your own multi-centre trips around Asia in no time at all.0 -
Thanks for all the info folks, much appreciated! Going to sit him down at weekend and have a look at some packages

Thomas cook shops have the same prices as their internet, quite often you get a better deal as we have been doing lower deposits, throwing in freebies ie airport parking, insurance, airport lounge etc. Also if you pick the right member of staff to serve you, you will get the benefit of their knowledge and experience. DIY is great if you know what you're doing.0 -

Yes I actually booked it in the shop. I got the price off the website and went in to see if they would match. They matched and gave me a couple of freebies too:D0 -
Hi, we have visited Parga on the Greek Mainland twice now. It would be a lovely location for your first trip abroad. It's such a beautiful little town, not too "brits abroad" lots of lovely tavernas on the harbour. You can swim from the pebble beach and feed the fish from your hands, great for snorkelling.
You won't be hastled by people trying to drag you into their shop/restaurant, like you would be in say Turkey or Bulgaria. Thomson and Olympic both go there, so for your first trip I'd advise a package. Olymic are a bit cheaper, but make sure you get as close to the harbour as possible as the rest is up a hill, and some places are quite a walk away.0 -
I'm no great linguist but I make a point of learning yes, no, please, thankyou & excuse me - and I get spoiled rotten for trying & lots more cooperation with the sign language thereafter.
Where is good too, and numbers are dedicated.
Have a smashing holiday wherever you go!0 -
What a ridiculous overreaction! It was perfectly obvious what she meant in asking it!
That depends who the reaction was aimed at. If it was to her then yes, an overreaction. If it was to the people who "don't like foreigners" then I'd call it an under-reaction if anything!
Being some kind of bigot who hates foreigners is one thing, but complaining about seeing foreigners while you're abroad would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic.0 -
I'd never been abroad until I was in my 40s & felt the same as you Banana, now I'm actually booking online. Have a think about where you'd like to go, then just do a bit of googling eg holiday to Malta or whatever, what airport, how long, bed & breakfast, half board, or all inclusive? Have a look on Tripadvisor forums too & find out more about the place you'd like to visit, & check out the reviews of the hotel. I look online (I usually ring them once I've decided) with my list of questions, I never book there & then I tell them I'll ring them back once I've checked everything, if I'm satisfied I ring them & book. Don't forget your holiday insurance. Enjoy! As for the language barrier you can point food out, & a smile means the same world wide, also you can learn a few words like please & thank you ...0
