With the FD and M&S savers, they set it up for you during the application (which is not done on-line) as the SO has to come from their current account. But after that you can vary it yourself.

i cant vary my newly opened 1st direct 6% rs, it also states that any changes have to be made over the phone.....

Hmm, I have never needed to vary it, but they did say "yes" when I asked "can I alter that SO myself?"

I didn't ask HOW I could though!

The T&Cs (specifically condition 5.5) state the payment must be made on the same day of the month that you opened the account (or the next business day if that day falls on a weekend).
