London Visit

My wife and I are looking to stay in London sometime in May for three nights. We have never been to London before so any help would be much appreciated. We want to see all the usual sights, Buckingham palace, Downing St, Changing of the guard, London eye, Museums, Maybe see a show etc. We would like to stay somewhere where it is fairly easy to get around. Don't mind using the underground if it's easy enough to get around. We have used Premier Inn and Travelodge before, and either of these would be fine. Thank you for any help or advice you can give me:)

Hi, Coming from Crewe by Train0

Although this post is about staying on the outskirts of London, I have put some infor on staying at the Travelodge in Southwark. That may suit if you get good rates.

Check out reviews for any hotels on tripadvisor and use www.tfl.gov.uk to plan your journeys in advance. You can often get good day seats for shows by going to the theatre box office on the day for opening time. Check out theatremonkey fo day seat information and seat reviews. Also keep an eye on ticketmaster, ATG facebook site and lastminute.com for theatre deals in May.0 -
Arriving at Paddington or Euston? How much do you want to spend on the hotel?0

From Crewe it will be Euston, I think. We like the Covent Garden Travelodge on High holburn/Drury Lane if you can get it at a good price - it's a relatively short taxi ride from Euston if you have luggage, and you're within reasonable walking distance of many of the central sights (British Museum, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden etc). For a show, War Horse is a few yards from the Travelodge and we've had cheap day tickets by turning up at the box office when it opened at 10am.0 -
Avoid the overheated underground rooms in the 1km walk from Covent Garden Travelodge. If you must stay there get an above ground room away from the building plant/machinery.0

Hotels near Euston and Kings Cross are convenient for getting luggage to and from train and hotel, with plenty of tube choices for getting to the rest of the city. Why carry your luggage halfway across the city?
You don't need to be near the sights, just near a tube station that connects with the sights.0 -
Thanks for all the quick replies, They are very helpful. We will be travelling to Euston station, so Travelodge sounds great. Were not bothered about expensive hotels, would rather spend the money saved on looking around London itself. Thank you once again0
