Apologies what I actually meant was that very will say it's outside of it's control as yodel were responsible for delivery of the item
What I am saying is surely very are responsible for the parcel from very to me therefore they can't use yodel as a reason not to provide any compensation ? Ie outside of Very control

    Also from unfair terms guidance:
1.9 Subcontractors. A disclaimer covering problems caused by a trader's
suppliers or subcontractors is regarded in the same way as one covering
loss or damage caused directly by his own fault. The consumer has no
choice as to whom they are, and has no contractual rights against them.
The business has chosen to enter agreements with them, and therefore
should not seek to disclaim responsibility for their defaults.

Yes and you asked why companies use Yodel.
We see why when you would buy from them anyway.

Maybe because if you're sending 1m packages a year, even a 50p discount is a lot of money. That's less than 3000 a day, so not exactly huge retailer is required for this threshold.

I don't use Yodel and don't know what their typical charge is, but it largely comes down to price for businesses.

It can cost us £1 to send an envelope with £20 sale in there to Europe (we're typically on 20% commission for event tickets), so whilst we'll use Royal Mail, it makes our margin VERY tight indeed.

If we charged postage, I can easily see our sales going down considerable, so that doesn't help, too.

  • All of this is irrelevant if the OP wants to cancel - he has the right to do so within 14 days for any reason. I would take this option - ensure that Very confirm this and look elsewhere. Wouldn't touch Very with a very long barge pole.
