Totally disguested with BT

We were previously a customer of BT until Sept 2014. We swapped over to another supplier as BT were too expensive and their unlimited broadband was rubbish to say the least. We had a few issues with them after contacting them. and to cut a long story short they have refunded some of the money paid to them but not all. We were told that our 12 month contract would finished by the swap over so there was nothing more to pay. When they finally sent a final bill they has only refunded less that one months payments. We had paid three months just before swapping over.
I emailed them a very long, strong email on the 8th January explaining all this and asking for any responses to be done in writing or via email as I wanted proof of the things they said after ripping us off so far, and I received an email back stating a reference number and was told that their aim was to get back to us in 48hrs but could be upto 96hrs. To date we have heard NOTHING.
I suspect that because we are not a customer anymore, they are just ignoring us.

You really need to phone up and speak to someone. If you get no joy, keep trying until you get someone who resolves the issue. I had similar issues with my parents move. It took 5 attempts to get it sorted until I found someone willing to listen. You are wasting your time trying to do it over email.0

I spoke to them before and then all they have done is gone against what they said. I want answers in writing incase I have to take this matter to a solicitor0

Unless you can prove they they agreed to release you early without an ETC (which means you have something in writing, or names from and times of phone conversations ) then you do not have much to support any claim.
The fact the the service was 'too expensive' (presumably it was the price you agreed the contract at?) and 'the broadband was rubbish' does not void your contract without penalty, unless they agreed to do so.
One hour of your solicitor's time will probably cost more than an ETC of 9m.No free lunch, and no free laptop

When we were swapping over to the new supplier and I called for a MAC code. I asked how much there would be to pay on the account. I was told we were out of contract so there would no further to pay as they had only just taken 3 months money by DD in advance.
There prices had increased dramatically since we started with them. We pay less than half as much now with new company.0 -
But you can't have been OOC after 3 months. The minimum term is 12 or 18 months.
Telcom contracts are not fixed price-they can increase their price at any time. The fact that you can now buy cheaper elsewhere again does not void your contract. The only way out of a contract early is the supplier agreeing to release you without penalty, usually following a complaint, or if they announced a price increase and you gave them notice in the due period following that announcement, citing the price increase as a reason. There's no mention of such notice being given in your first post.
I don't know who is in the right here, but it's you who is going to have to prove it if you think you are.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Apologies, I miss wrote what I was trying to say.
We left BT in Sept 14. We had been a customer for over 26 years. The last contract was for 12 months and that had just finished.0 -
So why does your first post say 'we had paid 3 months before swapping over'? If your minimum term expired before September 2014, then all you would need to do is to give 30 days notice.
26 years is not relevant, what matters is the date your minimum term expired.
If your complaint is actually that the refund they gave you was less than the refund they agreed, then you need to claim the additional by writing to them with the facts and the evidence. No free lunch, and no free laptop

The three mth payment was dd in advance line rental.
I have taken the matter to a solicitor and they have sent BT a letter.0 -
Did you pay the full 3 months or are you on a monthly payment plan?0
-
They always took 3 months in advance and produced a bill every 3 months0
