  • I know we live in the same house, but it's never as easy as that is it.

The 15 year old is a fairly new foster placement and has only been with us weeks, he lies about everything, is very interested in everything he shouldn't be doing. He keeps everything he can to himself. He can tell you one thing one minute and give a different answer the next, then give a 3rd or 4th different answer if you ask again.

I was just trying to work out if it was possible to connect at home, as that's where he told the college tutor he was using it, without the password, or judge if it was another untruth.

Also, as he actually asked for this I would presume he was using it, but he's never said a word, never asked for the password etc. It was a surprise when he told the college tutor he used it to go on facebook and twitter.

The eldest is my own and wouldn't share anything like that with a foster placement without asking me first. So that's why I know he hasn't got the password himself.
I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea

if your router supports it, you can also use WPS to connect to it without a password.

Theres usually a button on the router that you press, like who you can sync other wireless devices together.

you could also connect to the router directly, and access the password via the admin page (the login password is separate to the wireless one).

if you really wanted to find out, you could access the routers admin page and check the status, it should list what devices are currently connected, and possibly what devices have been connected recently

I think that's what's known as "drip feeding".

"I was just trying to work out if it was possible to connect at home, "

Is one of your neighbours running an open access point?

Otherwise, look and see which devices are using your router, or in extremis change the wireless password and see what happens.

Also, does he go to friends houses - when my DD's teenage friends come round, the first thing they do is ask for the internet password.

If you want to find out if there is an unsecured wireless network available at home, why not use your laptop or smart phone and see what networks they pick up?
  • Does he have a smartphone as well by chance?
