Anyone had experience of this and willing share, give advice? did you meet your partner this way, did you have a bad experience, advice on how to safely meet a stranger for the first time would be very much appreciated.

Met DH through a chat room and had a number of dates with men from chat room/online dating before then. Just be sensible - try to get to know them before you meet, talk on the phone etc. Meet somewhere neutral, tell somebody where you're going, arrange a 'code call' if you like. Don't be pressured into going anywhere you don't feel comfortable, and if it doesn't feel right, you can just politley decline any possible request for a second date.
I only had one date that I felt uncomfortable with. We had a meal together but pretty much as soon as the meal was done I made my excuses. I got very lucky with the others - a couple went very well, a couple of others didn't result in any romance but we had a nice time as friends and I'm still in touch with some of them 15 years on

I gave up, all the women were weirdo cat owners. If you have 2+ cats give up now, or get a dog. Blokes love a walk with a dog. Good luck.

always make sure you know a lot more about them than they do you ;)

all my experiences have been good in one way or another but follow rule one and you will always have the upper hand
  • I think it's a great way to meet people. Had a couple of dates that just lasted for a few dates ( but I did manage to get my shed roof fixed through one of them!) One that only lasted the one date, and then the most recent one who I met thinking we were just going to get on as friends as he'd only recently separated, got on like a house on fire and 10 months later we're still together.

Chat online for a little while first, but not too long. Meet in a neutral place, make sure a friend knows where you're going and start with just a drink or coffee. ( Having said that by date 2 with this one I got in his car, drove to Wales and had the best date I've ever had!)

i met my husband on line, we chatted for a couple of days, i checked that he was real and had a real family on facebook, we met in a public place, i texted my friend the car number plate(she made me) and checked in with her every half hour!! My mam said he was obviously a serial killer if i met him on line, but fingers crossed, three and a half years later, im still alive!!. Just be careful.xx
  • A friend of mine has been into online dating for a few years now since her husband left her. She's been convinced on quite a few occasions that she's met 'the one'. Each time they've pursued her for a while, making her feel really special. Then it ends up with a meet up, they end up having sex and then they dissappear off the face of the earth! I think a lot (not all) just use it as a game to relieve their marital boredom and gain casual sex. Proceed with caution!

You may prefer a walk with a dog - others prefer a woman with a puss y or two.

  • I've never tried it and wouldn't want to, but I certainly wouldn't look down on others for trying it if that's what they wanted to do.

It can work, I know of people who met online and are in healthy and loving relationships, I even know a few people who have children and they met online. It can work for sure, just don't be tricked or reeled in by any of these paid subscription sites - they're stupid.

I met my boyfriend on plenty of fish. We have been going 8+ months now. I'd definitely recommend it. A lot of people criticise the way you get a lot of messages from men looking for one thing, but I dont see this as an issue as you can just ignore them. I met up with him face to face after about two weeks of chatting online.

For safety I'd reccomend meeting somewhere neutral that you know well, perhaps during the daytime and have a plan of how you're getting home. Maybe juat meet at a local (busy) park or cafe. And tell someone where you are. You could even say that you have somewhere else to be later on in the day so that you have a way of getting out of a date after an hour if you want to.

I think online dating is great so you have an idea of what the other person wants/likes so that you dont have to waste time with anyone who is completely incompatible with you.
