Why did you not tell us that things didn't work? Not obvious things, but hidden things that we would only find about after we lived here?
1) wrong fuses fitted, so underfloor heating didn't work when it turned colder.
2) boiler programmer that is only wired to work with both heating and hot water on together?
3) thermostat that doesn't work and now we find out that it was disconnected.
4) window fitted with no outside sill (only found out when scaffolding up this week) not sure if surveyor could see this.
5) conservatory built over boundary line, despite reassuring us it wasn't.
6) covering shed with roofing felt while viewing, to hide the fact it was full of holes and timbers rotten. Couldn't see inside as full of stuff.
7) leaving drain full of rubble.
8) no electrical certificate despite promises, which we will now have to sort and pay for (probably uncovering more problems)
9) boiler pump stuck.
This is just some of the problems so far.
Vent over. Hoping to feel better soon.

Or perhaps it is the seller that has been untruthful.
Are you planning to find out which?0 -
need to get onto conveyancer I guess, but what can they realistically do?
Just so fed-up of having to repair hidden, botched up jobs. Needed the spare money for extra alterations to rooms for our disabled child.
neighbour said he was a BIY'er, botch it yourself.0 -
My estate agent friend told me of a customer (who had been trouble during the purchasing process) who complained to him about a rotten smell in their new house that they couldn't pin down to anywhere- despite lifting the carpets up, moving furniture, lifting floorboards etc.
My friend bumped into the previous owner of the house, and mentioned the complaint from the new owners- the previous owner admitted to stuffing prawns in the curtain poles before moving, due to the buyers being so much trouble! it is so worth spending £300 + to get your independent survey done, and any solicitor worth their salt will tell you this if you don't know already, rather spend that amount than have to spend a whole lot more months or years down the line after completion0

I went to have a shower 2 days after moving in and the bloody door fell off, broken track!0

Never had things that badly wrong so sympathies but I did move quite a few times and there were always hidden snags we found later.
One place I bought they sellers had unscrewed all the brass internal doorknobs and replaced them with the original anodised aluminium ones so the fixing holes of the larger brass plates were left showing. They'd also taken every light bulb.
I don't know if my voodoo dance worked on that one but if it did they'll still have painful piles even though forty years have passed.0 -

.
and the really annoying thing is I was a work colleague (and friend - I thought) of the previous owner of Villa Valli!
I remember there being a young apple tree in the garden when we viewed - it wasn't here when we moved in! But how do you prove it?
There were other issues too!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Not as bad as the people who owned this house before we moved in.
We wondered why every single window in the house was open when we arrived on moving day, it was a cold day.
We soon found out as soon as we closed the windows that it was because there was a serious gas leak. What kind of people do that, especially as we were moving in with 3 children, one of which was a newborn.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
About 10 years ago, I bought a house that had cast iron downpipes from the gutter and these looked to be in lovely condition.
Well, they were in lovely condition until it rained shortly after I had moved in.
One of the downpipes had a big split in it due to rusting and this had been "repaired" by having a piece of masking tape put over it and then painted with black Hammerite paint so it blended in nicely.
It was fine until it rained and the masking tape got wet on the inside and promptly became unstuck from the pipe leaving water running down the outside.0 -
Lovely coal effect gas fire in the lounge, big chimney stack on the roof, nothing in between. I think our surveyor may have been a football referee in his spare time.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
