Estate agents fees, what percentage?

1.5 is what they are asking but there is no way on Earth I am going to pay £6,000 (plus Vat!) on a house they have said they expect to sell within a month!
I'm sure The last time I moved I paid .5 of a percent on £327,000 which would be about £1,635 plus VAT I think?
Yes but selling within a month (of course no one knows if this is possible) is a statement to drive up the fee.
Just a thought. If you want to sell quickly why not suggest to them a stepped rate? My dad did this and it was x% if they sold at between x and y within 3 months, and then lower rates for longer timescale and lower price. It worked!! I can't remember the rates though.
I must admit I haven't heard of as low as 0.5% before. This is an excellent rate.0 -
I wouldn't want/expect to pay over 1%. My last few sales have been at that figure.
Jx2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
I've previously negotiated to 1% in London, but in general they just use your house to sell others on their books for the higher commission e.g yours is at the back of the queue. May just have been my experience but something to be aware of.0

My agent did at first suggest doing 1% but if he got within 5k of asking price he could get 1.25%
I said much as i would like them to have a motivator, I would prefer to keep things simple and just do the 1%, which he agreed to.0 -
We paid 1.26% of the selling price of our last house at the end of 20130
