Rebate on old bill?

Hi this is my first post on the forum. I'm Mark, hello everybody.
I have a quick question.
I've been on a water meter for 6 months now and just had my first bill. It makes shocking reading! I've been told that if I carry on with my current usage for the year I will finish with a bill of approximately £317, this is excellent as it shows a vast saving from my previous yearly bill of £577.
However the shock came as it seems I have been significantly over paying for many years now with the old 'rateable' system. Cheeky I know but is there a case for a rebate?

No rebate you are now on the meter system that you could have switched to at any time .
You have not been overpaying at all the metered system could have been more expensive .

As a matter of interest if you and millions of others were to get several years rebate, costing £billions, where do you think that money would come from?

Thank you for the replies. I have to say on hindsight it was a bit of a daft question. I think I was in a state of shock as to the difference in my bill. I wasn't aware I could have gone to a meter, it was only when we were told they were being installed that we then had to switch. Thanks again

Most water bills suggest that you can have a meter and have been doing so for years so you could have had one 10 years ago if you wanted.
