Transferring contacts and apps to new iphone

I've been given a second hand iphone and want to transfer some apps and contacts to it from my old iphone. The wifi and bluetooth don't work on the old phone. I've tried downloading itunes but it won't download from the Apple site. Having found another site I now see that it isn't possible via itunes to just copy those items. I don't use music or film etc, and any photos are in dropbox so all I want is to copy the paid for apps and contacts. I would then delete itunes.
I've googled and there are some solutions but really not sure if they are ok or would work on my laptop. It runs vista and is a few years old. Backing up the whole phone isn't possible as it uses up too much memory on the laptop.
Any help gratefully received. Isn't there just some way of transferring using windows explorer?
Thanks
DS

iTunes works on xp
Just back up phone to iTunes
And restore to new one.
Emails don't get transferred
U need to free up room on laptop.
Maybe ccleaner would help in that.
Once done you can remove iTunes0 -
This is simple.
Get the new phone. Go to Settings / General /Software Update and update to the latest version. Set up as a new phone with your details.
Log into the App Store on the phone. Download your apps from the 'Purchased' tab.
Download Dropbox from the App Store. Your photos will appear and you can save them to the phone if you want.0
