In this area of the country, we have always had Haddock - purely because we are a fishing port and historically have always sent the lower quality fish elsewhere (cod) and kept the best for ourselves (Haddock). We don't like eating fish with worms.
And Wetherspoons seem to have this weird impression that they can stick cod on the menu here, then wonder why people never EVER order it!
One of my friends is a manager at Wetherspoons and doesn't understand it either.
"It's like going to Beijing and serving up chicken chow mein and prawn crackers"
It's simply stupid.
On a side note I think you can order Chicken chow mein and prawn crackers in Beijing in a chinese restaurant, just like I can order it in scotland in a chinese place.Need to get rid of my Yankee Candle Habit, Not very money saving of me0 -
Yes, the menus in England even point to the fact that the lucky Scots get haddock and in England we're stuck with the inferior cod. Still, I do have friends who insist on ordering the inferior fish, even after I've pointed out that fishermen don't eat it...for a reason.4.7kWp (12 * Hyundai S395VG) facing more or less S + 3.6kW Growatt inverter + 6.5kWh Growatt battery. I'm pretty baffled (and jealous) by those people who say Wetherspoon's is expensive. Are they different prices in different areas?
Probably half the things on the Menus near me are about £6, often including a drink. Given that in other local pubs you'll pay about £4 just for exactly the same drink, I don't understand how other people find it expensive.
For sure, the quality varies depending on your local Wetherspoons, ours is pretty good and always filling enough. But I've always felt that for the price, you can't really expect gourmet!Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

The prices do vary between all their pubs, but I agree they are never expensive. I have noticed in London they tend to get more expensive close to the centre. Only really disappointing one was near Victoria where they had a limited menu with no onion rings! Burger, chips & a drink for between £4-7 is still a bargain (add 20p for a pint of Pepsi or £1 to go for a pint of beer!), almost cheaper than Burger King most of the time.0 -

A local restaurant sells a 3 course lunch for 9.50, massive portions and home cooked food.
Wetherspoon also use workfare, certainly not the only company that does so, zero hour contracts as well.Britain is great but Manchester is greater0 -
They don't use Workfare, haven't done for ages. Nor do they have zero hour contracts - they have flexible contracts. Zero hour contracts don't give you sick pay, holiday pay, bonuses or free shares. It's really not a bad company to work for, if you're willing to work hard. The rewards can be amazing.
And the food and drink is good value all round - yes, you can count the chips on your plate, but that's because they don't serve infinite quantities!!!:EasterBun
Live, laugh and eat lots of chocolate!! :j0 -
