Mr Bean, without reading the details since I last posted this:

    I think the status is:
    • You have opened 1 Tesco current account - you and your wife could have 4 by now

    • You have opened no BOS Vantages - you could have 6 by now between the two of you

    • You have opened no Club Lloyds current accounts and monthly savers - you could both have 1 each now

    • You have opened no HSBC and no M&S accounts to get at their Regular savers - you could both have 2 RS now

    • You have opened no Nationwide Regular Savers - you could each have one of these now
The BOS, Tesco and Lloyds current accounts alone would take £52K in total, before you start on the additional regular savers.

    HI Colsten,
I think i might have to rob a bank to fund all of them!,
im obviously will have to lower my expectations as i clearly cannot do all the tasks mentioned.
    regards.
    mr poor bean!
ps just had a text that my tesco d/card is on its way.

Whilst they could only have one monthly saver each, they could get 3 Club Lloyds current accounts by making the 3rd one joint. £15K @ 4% AER should take priority over 3 of the BoS Vantage accounts. And now he knows what he's doing with Tesco, he can sort the DDs for it. :)

    Mr. Bean.

There is no point in making an appointment with Lloyds.

Lloyds Vantage is no longer available to new customers, and not even existing ones can upgrade. http://www.lloydsbank.com/current-accounts/vantage.asp

If you want a Club Lloyds, you can apply online. http://www.lloydsbank.com/current-accounts/club-lloyds.asp

    Hi colsten.
I have cancelled the lloyds appointment tomoz for me & my good lady.

You need Tesco savings accounts for the DDs to pull from accounts such as Halifax (for the fivers) and Lloyds (for the 4% AER).

Tesco current accounts are only any good for getting 3% AER interest on.

If you go read my posts again you'll see I talk of savings accounts, not current accounts, with Tesco, for the purposes of setting up DDs.

EDIT: What was that noise? Was it the sound of a penny dropping? ;)

    Hi.
Due to the post arrival this morning , I have now created a Tesco current account for the mrs , fed with 3k & s/o. Of £750 dipping in and out :T

So I am happy with the one account for now &will concentrate on the next step.

I have cancelled the appointment with lloyds bank.

You say & I am listening ! That I need the internet account for the dd set up , well my query I have is that in t&c for the c/acc it says I can set up as many d/debits that I want , so I believe you to be right , but it is confusing mr bean.

Our 6k is due from first direct the end of this month from the saver, so I will need a home for this ! , I will create further s/of or this next year then.

I am next going to look in to the BoS account, as it got a 12 month introductionary bonus?, if it has I'm not sure that the 30 k stashed away in the wife's name would be a good idea to take away from the tax free status , what do others think ?, it's on a 40day notice.

I might be wrong, but I would have thought your next steps should be
    1. unless already done, sort out R85 for your wife's Tesco current account
    2. apply online for 1 Club Lloyds current account (+internet access) for yourself
    3. apply online for 1 Club Lloyds current account (+internet access) for your wife
    4. get R85 sorted for your wife's Club Lloyds
    5. deposit min £4,000 max £5,000 into each
    6. unless already done, apply online for 2 Tesco savings accounts in each of your names
    7. in your respective Tesco online banking, set up 2 monthly paying DDs for each of your respective Club Lloyds accounts
    8. set up SOs to swap £1,500 a month on the same day each month between the two Club Lloyds
    9. register all the accounts, SOs and DDs in your favourite budgeting app or spreadsheet etc

Insert cups of coffee / tea, walks, pints in between as required.

Later, when above done and you have Internet access to your respective Lloyds accounts, you can set up a joint Club Lloyds and Club Lloyds Monthly Savers. And the BOS accounts etc etc.

If you are looking at a BOS account with an introductory bonus, you are looking at the wrong account. You want the BOS [classic account with] Vantage

Your wife can have 3 of these, paying 3% AER on max £5K each. You can also have 3, same terms. Your wife can have her interest paid gross if you tell BOS with an R85.

£1 to open should be enough - it should tell you.

NB. I will have to charge you £135/hour plus VAT from now on. Pay in used £20 please.

Does your wife usually tear her hair out, or does she just take another valium?

you could follow the steps I suggested a bit earlier - but by all means, draw up your own to-do list in the sequence that you are happy with.

you're doing well and you'll get there eventually, I'm sure. Good to see you are not losing your sense of humour over this project.
