Macbook Pro static electricity

  • I'm sure apple will probably sell you some anti-shock gloves for about £150.

Here you are I've found some for you. http://schultzhealthcare.com/ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/scarborough-attack.jpg

I think they come in a range of different colours.

I've got some of those in the kitchen.

Wouldn't be easy trying to type wearing them though!

Think I will just have to put up with being super-charged several times a day.

My husband and son have both experienced the tingling sensation when touching the Macbook lid.

It looks like I may need to take the Macbook to have someone check it out.

    Much appreciated.

By all means get it checked but it could also be down to something like the carpet and all of you are picking up a charge to some extent or other.

I think it is to do with the carpet but my husband disagrees!

We had a new carpet fitted about 3/4 months ago. Before this the Macbook did occasionally give tingling sensations, but it seems to be getting worse.

The carpet is made of wool though and I wouldn't have expected static to be a problem when standing on something made of natural materials.

    Curiouser and curiouser ... :D

As well as man made fibres, humidity has an effect on static. Modern houses with central heating are prone to static. A humidifier will help.
Also make a point of touching the Macbook with your ring before opening.

It's unlikely the static is building up on the laptop, it's more likely to be you.

If the charge is on the MacBook then you may have an earth fault that needs looking at.

How when the Macbook has no earthing?

Although the laptop is technically not "earthed" it has a large metal area and is effectively coupled to ground by capacitance - its own capacitance and the capacitors in the interference suppression circuit of the power supply unit. As such, it can't kill you but you can still give yourself an interesting nip!

I regularly experience a sensation like that on my mains powered CD player, and have noticed on my Macbook air although not recently.

I dont think it is an issue.

If it was earthed there'd be no static, it would discharge to earth!

So it's not only the price of these things that gives you a shock.
