I understand that from the above replies. No need to reiterate.

I just wanted to know if there was a way we could regain some of the money lost. Obviously, I think it's stupid that he didn't check his DDs and missed this payment for such a long time. It's just gutting to see that such a large amount of money has gone out to pay for nothing!
Any refund is purely a gesture of goodwill, if DH was made the offer and he accepted then I don't see any reason not to chase this up.
Notes should have been made against the account which will allow them to see if they have been actioned.
It's not just about the money

One thing you need to check. The copntract would still have needed 30 day's notice to terminate. If he didn't do that it will continue and if he did he will still owe another 30 days. Cancelling the direct debit before anything outstanding is paid would risk trashing his credit records.

Thanks OP. I needed a chuckle. Just proves contracts are for mugs. At least you've hopefully learned from this.
  • Thanks for all your help.
I will tell him to chase up for the money offered but that it was through personal fault that the rest of the money came out of his account. Thanks for clearing this up. Much appreciated.

    Really?

I must be one then (unlike you, obviously). After all, I've been using multiple contracts for years, have made a handsome profit from all but 4 (out of scores), enjoyed free calls, texts, internet and more. I should have been like you and actually PAID for all that use then.
