If a person as server mental impairment which is permenant they can claim a discount in Council Tax.
Would these illnesses qualify,Severe Depression,Suicidal Ideation,Body Dismorphic Disorder (BDD),Paranod Personality Disorder (PPD),Arthritis and Degenerative Disc Disease qualify.
Please could someone list other illnesses to that would meet the criteria for a discount in Council Tax.

Can't list the impairments as there doesn't appear to be a list as such. Accordng to this fact sheet (http://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/help-council-tax) you must be ‘Severely mentally impaired’ which means you have a 'severe impairment of intelligence and social functioning (however caused) which appears to be permanent’; and have a certificate from a registered medical practitioner confirming this. You also have to be on one of the qualifying benefits.
As long as your impairment fits the criteria, you have the certificate from Dr and you are on one of the qualifying benefits (DLA/PIP) then you should qualify. Might be best calling your local Council to check.
Hope this helps

There isn't a list of illnesses which qualify - the Dr has to sign to say that you met the criteria (given above) in their opinion.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

I think it usually applies to people with advanced senile dementia/alzheimers. That's not to say other conditions would not be eligible. But those are the only ones I know about. Why not contact the council and ask them - it may vary from one council to another.0

That was the original intent of the legislation however it was so loosely worded that it doesn't fulfill this intention and therefore it is granted for less serious cases then intended. However, as long as you meet the criteria then you are entitled to it, until such time as legislation is altered to say otherwise.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. I have been awarded the 25% discount for Council Tax due to my lack of mental capacity and the Council now owe me money for overpaid Council Tax.
What i want to know is,can i get interest on the amount that is owed bc it would have gained interest if it had been in my bank account, but as lost value in todays money. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Sorry but this is clearly a case where the authority has not applied the legislation correctly - if you're capable of posting with such clarity on here then you do not have a SMI.
And no, you can't claim interest on the overpayment.0 -
Just be thankful you got your 25% discount and are due a rebate...0
