Pass plus - generally not worth it as you get little saving in insurance and the saving only applies for about 2 years I think. Also not all insurers give a discount.

Some sound advice in your post but not sure about this bit, ecarinsurance quoted almost £200 a year less for my 18 year old son if he had taken his pass plus, also the experienced gained would have been valuable too and effectively free with the PP discount. Having said that only a handfull of the quotes I got offered a discount for Pass Plus so may not be so good in all cases.

I agree with this. I wasn't expecting any discount really with Pass Plus because of my age (it's mainly aimed at under-25's) but I did it anyway to get experience in areas that weren't covered in my normal lessons and in the end I got 20% off my insurance as well.

As for insurers not offering Pass Plus discount, in my experience I had to ring them up and ask if they gave a discount as most insurance companies don't seem to mention it on their websites.

I bought first time insurance from Quinn Direct for £404 yesterday. I am 22 and have a provisional - my dad also had to go on the insurance as he will be teaching me to drive. Really pleased as I was expecting £800+ :j . I have got 3rd party fire and theft as the car is an old banger.
