You can get a brand new car thats had paintwork done. Nothing to say its unroadworthy.

Unless you pay for an inspection to show they sold you an unroadworthy vehicle your going to have to play at being nice and see what they offer.

HPI report will only show if its been written off. It wont show any accidents that have been repaired.

  • Heated mirrors will only come on with heated rear screen IIRC?

The fan? Could be the aircon fan or the DPF doing a regen cycle?

Speedo not straight? Explain, with pics?

Sounds like you know you paid too much and are now wanting to blame someone else.

As a newbie, I doubt you'll be back.

What is that supposed to mean?!

Car is booked into dealer to look at faults, as for paint of panels etc. a VW approved repairer checked it all out (used a paint gauge) and believes car has not had any panels replaced, which we're happy to accept.

Thanks for all your replies, much appreciated.

Just that a large proportion of those who come here and post about a situation they've built into their minds as a serious grievance, but who then find that the replies don't go the way they expected, are never seen again.

I'm glad that you've accepted the findings of the repairer, and hope that you can get the remaining niggles resolved.

if you are concerned about the condition of the vehicle then it may be worth commissioning and independent vehicle inspection

this will cost a couple of hundred pound but on a vehicle of the cost of your VW it would be worth it to put your mind at rest, and any issues that the inspection highlights then you could try and get the selling dealer to correct them under the warranty or as a good will payment

if i had spent north of fourteen grand on a car i would want ti to be straight and problem free

"I THINK the car has been in a major accident because I am an expert, therefore i've been on the phone to citizens advice and i demand this and that, immediate action, sales manager, car devalued, blah, blah, blah"

And then it turns out it hasnt had any panels replaced??

No used car is going to be perfect, particularly when you get down to the level of "screw sitting out 10mm" and "boot lid rattles".

Very minor things in the great scheme of it all

I totally agree that no used car will be perfect infact many new cars are far from perfect

a screw sitting out 10mm is getting on for half an inch and no screw should be sat that proud, if it was my car first course of action would be to try and refit the screw flush and if it didn't screw in i would look at why

Thanks for your reply! Probably a good job that you're out of motor trading?!

Not that I need to defend myself in any way BUT having owned 3 Passats and currently driving one, all the panels are the same colour inside and out, which led us to think something was "wrong" with the Touran.
As I said we're happy to accept that the panels haven't been replaced and the garage will hopefully fix the other problems.

Glad I posted on here and got (some) helpful replies.

We still don't know what screw we're actually talking about. If it's some protruding thread from the back of something fitted in the engine bay, then it's absolutely common. If we're talking about the head of an exposed screw fitting trim in the interior, then that's another matter - but still no proof of collision damage.
