how much to replace CH boiler?

why spend £3240 when you don't have to, it works.
CH firms are there to make money.
I am in the trade, bit I'm also a paid up member of the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" club, and whilst there might be a case for replacing a performa 28 I want to see a much better schedule of proposed works before endorsing this one. It seems the poster only has the vaguest of notions of what they are actually paying over £3000 for and that starts all kinds of warning bells ringing.
Have you had a written quote giving full details of what they are going to do? If it's all been verbal or back of a fag packet stuff then I'm not sure why you are asking questions on here to be honest.0 -
The boiler is working at present but it is very noisy and getting noisier. In fairness, we got engineer out because it was so noisy and he is not proposing to replace it now, wait until it packs up but says we should be prepared for this in not too distant future given it gets heavy use and is showing its age.
He indicated the machine for flushing the pipes was some state of the art thing which replaces older power flush machines they have just bought. They are a reputable firm - been around for years locally with an excellent reputation and well booked up ahead - and I just asked for a ball park figure when they came out and said it would need replacing before too long. I have asked for a written quote and one is on its way.0 -
What is the difference between a Worcester Bosch Cdi and a Compact? I have been looking them up (to inform myself ) and they seem to be the same thing as in W-B 28cdi compact?
Also how much should a power flush cost? My house is a tall narrow one over three floors and we have around 15 radiators. I know this seems a lot but house has high ceilings and there are two rads in both living room and home office and two more in the conservatory apart from rest of house which has 4 beds.0 -

That wasn't the point, the OP appears to be being led subtly down the replace it route, which is a nice earner, in a trade not known for it's honesty, reasonable prices or professionalism. The boiler isn't that old, a reputable and capable engineer might perhaps identify a cause and supply a quote to eradicate the noise if it is such a problem.
There's a big gap between a £60 fan, a £600 boiler, and £3250.0
