how much to replace CH boiler?

Options
We currently have a potterton performa 28 combi boiler which feeds our largeish Victorian house (tall narrow 3 floors 2 bath/showers). does heating and hw and works fine except bath could run a bit hotter. however it is noisy and getting noisier and CH firm (reputable local indie) says will need replacing soonish. recommends equivalent Worcester Bosch. any idea how much this should cost approx ?

My guess, £1k to £3k. Totally depends on what kind of boiler you go for.

Why not ask you reputable local indie?

Check the model of the boiler they quote - is it the cheapest in the range or one more suited to your size of house? No-one likes a feeble shower!

Also check what thermostat you'll get - the basic ones are just + and - temperature. Better ones let you programme on/off times & even days of the week.

Also check whether price includes radiator flushing.
  • Why don't you ask someone in your town, they will tell you the exact amount how much will you require for repair.

A Worcester Bosch boiler alone will run out at £1k, or very close. They are expensive for what they are. If you budget for £2k you should have a bit to spare, depending on controls upgrades such as TRVs and RF programmable roomstat. You need to get a quote a tell us what is included by him.
  • Yes,you should get a quote and do what he said above or the other way also you can go .You can ask by calling to any service provider, they will tell you the best of what you want and you can manage that what you want. You can go for heating service nyc which use to work on very large scale and have the solution of each and every question arising on this topic.

Quote is £2,700 excluding VAT but including system flush. We are in greater London. Boiler size would be Worcester equivalent to a Potterton Performa 28.

So thats £3240 for a straight combi swap including a "system flush".....well what else is he going to flush?...is that a power flush? a magnacleanse? or just chemical flush?..there's a big difference .

Two days max, minimal pipework changes. Is the gas supply in 22mm or 15mm as if its in 15mm it will need upgrading to 22mm pipe. Also no mention of a magnetic filter

Not for me to knock other traders, but unless this feller is somebody you know well and have complete confidence in then I would be getting other quotations, if only to compare. You need a more detailed spec/quote/schedule of works than the one you have given us for me to be convinced you are getting value for money. For a start if its a Worcester Bosch Junior 24 or 28i boiler he has recommended I would not have one in my house...as they are indifferent quality. The Cdi is fine and the Compact is OK as well. Either way I think there are just as good boilers £250 cheaper.

That price is not an extreme price, but for that price I would expect a top quality job to be done. If he does top quality work then you will benefit from that long after you have forgotten what you paid.

It's a special flush with some new machine they have bought which gets all the gunge of the pipes (he says). He said it was a smaller boiler in size than the existing one (Performa 28) would that make it a compact?

why spend £3240 when you don't have to, it works.

CH firms are there to make money.
